The east coast in general has a much higher percentage of lottery players relative to population size. California has the largest population so it will always show up on whatever statistics you look at.

I was NOT referring to the national lottery. The statement was about the lottery the state itself runs, not the national powerball megamillions games which the state has nothing to do with it.

A state's size will have little impact on how often that state has a lottery winner. What does have an impact is the number of people playing in the state.. (more correctly, the number of tickets sold in the state)

NJ may be smaller than Massachusetts (area), but there are more people living in NJ.. about 9.2m vs 7m.. There is also the possibility of people crossing the border (or passing through) into NJ to buy tickets

It seems extremely high... maybe they are using the annuity value of the top prize(s) in their calculations rather than the cash value. . .

Nope.. I got 83.7% using face values ($1,265,560,000) and 81.38% when using a .65 multiplier for cash from annuity ($1,230,560)

(7,375,193 prizes from up to 30,240,000 tickets available.. max revenue $50 x 30,240,000 = $1,512,000,000

What States win the Powerball the most? Powerball Jackpots Won By State It's New York that has recorded the most, with its aforementioned 42 jackpots. California ranks second at 35, and New Jersey landed in third at 27. and New Jersey is smaller than Massachusetts.

Massachusetts does have one of the nation's best lottery in terms of prize structure and number of options as well games. It has the highest percentage of winning chances of any lottery as a whole or so it claims at 85%. It also attracts a significant number of players from neighboring states for obvious reasons which creates a positive feedback loop for the lottery. More players, more prizes.

That's a sweet prize for a $50 scratcher. $50 over here in Arizona only gets you a top prize of 5 million. Our scratchers are horrible with payouts compared to other states.

I know, YouTube has many vids of folks who buy up the whole role, or a fresh pack. And do a live 2-hour scratch-off. I get the feeling most are not checking the odds on most of them. o well, ya never know

as they say, can we keep it , Anybody who has been playing and studying lottery games for a long time knows, that scratch-offs have some of the worst odds, the billion-dollar extravaganza scratch-off odds on winning the 25mil? are 1 in 10 million. $50 is nothing compared to Texas who has the $100 scratch off, that top prize is $20M. It looks like the Massachusetts $50 ticket is a better deal with a $25M top prize. I don't see myself buying either but it does give people options. My state just got the $50 scratch off a few months ago.
