About nine months ago was in Georgia. They have billboards with the jackpot amounts on them. Nosy bones here sent them an email to update the billboards to reflect billion dollar jackpots. We were there last weekend...one billboard that we saw was updated, other ones just said $999 million, so it's a start. Noticed though in the stores that were frequented the LED signs still only went to $999 million.

probability is probability $10 Billion Jackpot is not impossible and $20 Billion jackpot is not impossible what Ai is saying is they can't stop it from Climbing but they can Slow it down so second chance win more makes sense. Think of it this way if they slow it down at $4 billion it means when ten people win instead of getting $1 million or $2 million they get $5 million or ten million that means more winners without rushing the Climb makes perfect sense. Why would there be a roll-down when there is no set maximum that the Powerball can grow? When no one won the 1.4 billion jackpot Wednesday, there was 17 people who won 1 million dollars, when no one won at 1.3 billion, there were 12 winner of 1 million dollars, when there was no winner at 1.1 billion there was also 12 winners of 1 million dollars. Even by some miracle if the jackpot was to ever reach 5 billions, there would be just more 1 million dollars winners.

I simply load the last cash value, and subtract the previous cash value (generally off the Texas Lottery site) and use the cash/sales ratio to estimate sales .

And in this case you got garbage out because you put garbage in as a result of data that wasn't updated. In this case it looks like you used the $498.4 million cash value for the originally announced $1.1 billion jackpot. The actual cash value at drawing time was about $46 million higher, so they needed almost 70 million fewer ticket... [ More ]

They say on the delottery website that the Saturday jackpot will be estimated to be 1.7 bil should there be no winner tonight.

I betcha it would actually climb to 1.8 or 1.85 bil what with lottomania running wild!

Inside Edition just showed James Farthing, the guy who won $167.2 million on Powerball from KY. Unknown to me was that he had spent 30 years in prison and all the mugshots were posted. Can't remember local news carrying that part of the story

I didn't miss any memo. I have a spreadsheet for running the Poisson distribution, which of course, is an approximation. To calculate estimated sales, I simply load the last cash value, and subtract the previous cash value (generally off the Texas Lottery site) and use the cash/sales ratio to estimate sales . Washington has no sales tax and you can claim through trust or llc. They'll release the trust or llc details if requested but you'd just form the llc in Delaware to keep anonymity. Same situation with Florida.

They're already trying to stoke the frenzy by inflating the actual jackpot by 120% wit the annuity. Of course the system would not know if you picked the numbers 1-2-3-4-5-6. You definitely would not get much money if by some miracle the numbers hit because about 10K people a day play 1-2-3-4-5-6. This reminds me of the TV show Lost. When the fans of that show played Hurley's lottery numbers of 4-8-15-16-23-42 in the ($355M) Mega Millions drawing in 2011 and hit 4 out of the 6 numbers and 26K people won $150.

I'm wondering if there's any chance that sales today have been lower than expected, because I was sure we'd see an updated jackpot this afternoon. Their own, and presumably conservative, sales estimate is for 112 million tickets which would add about $75 million cash and increase the annuity by $165 million. Saturday's drawing ended at about $544 million cash and $1.201 billion for the annuity. That means their sales estimate puts tomorrow's jackpot at $619... [ More ]
