I believe Wild Bill is just imagining that he is in a pool of 80 and his work doesn't mind all the time it takes up with a possible end result of everyone quitting the job destroying the company if they win. They should have won many, many more smaller prizes than he claims they do with that amount of tickets weekly. We had a pool at work once and it was just drawing one name out of a hat. I believe last time I checked with the guy running the pool on our total return up to end 2020 he said it was like $1200

To give you an idea of a reasonable minimum, the current odds (with some minor rounding) for the last two prizes are 1 in 92 and 1 in 38. If you've got 80 people spending $5 per drawing you're playing 600 tickets per week. Probability says you should expect to win 6 8th place and 15 9th place prizes each week. I don't approve of lottery pools at work for many reasons. Maybe you run yours efficiently although I doubt it. For one thing you have too many people in it. Don't tell me that running one of those does not interfere with the alleged work everyone does there. Especially when it reaches this level. At the risk of generating a post generating obsessive, unreadable, tiresome and useless nonsense about memos and such, I would like to suggest that the Poisson distribution for probability of numbers of winners, based on the estimated number of sales for this drawing as posted on the Texas Lottery website, $467,466,068 (corresponding to 233,733,034 tickets) suggests the following number of winners:

We have had tons of $2, $4, or $10 ticket winners over the many years and only won $50 3 times but never $100 under the old matrix and when the tickets were $1 rather Powerball or mega. Through out the years we started winning bunch of $4'ticket prizes or sometimes several $7 ticket prizes but never ever crossed pass $50. As far the return rate I appreciate you breaking that down but never ever got close to any $50k return rate so that should tell you so... [ More ]

Castro, like almost all sensible people, took the $997.6 million cash. There's a tiny chance that with the help of higher interest rates the inflated annuity value could reach $2 billion, but unless people absolutely lose their minds there's zero chance that Saturday's total will be even close to Castro's haul. Even if it rolls on Saturday it may not be big enough.

Unfortunately we playing each draw with our group and they all definitely made a commitment not to drop out or you can't get back in and we only increase it to $10 when it crosses a billion but playing $5 a ticket for years together every drawing regardless if it $20 million or 900 million. Not really. You only have so many drawings to hit a lottery. You absolutely have to at least cover every one with at least one ticket. This worrying about what the jackpot is secondary in importance. Budget smudget. You are attempting to take something down here. You feel good when those tickets are in your pocket. You have a chance now in a world where there aren't that many anymore.

* Can't say for sure about the liverwurst- but a swig of Olive oil before bedtime does wonders on the digestive system.

*What l have noticed over the years is that one never reads of 2nd prize winners going on to win the jackpot. I could be wrong, but even folks who have won the jackpot with all those millions still playing are never reported as hitting it twice. So, if you not winning the big one as yet, just remember hope remains.

It's fine if the pool organizer spends the time on it after work. It's also no big deal if it's a government agency, since they don't do much work anyway LOL.

If I ran a small business with a lottery pool, I would make the business a participant. That way, should the pool win the jackpot, the business will get a check that should more than make up for departing employees.

I do wonder though why one ticket always win at top but it's hundreds of million losing tickets. It just doesn't sit right with me. Its either one ticket win or no one wins.
