Close is went you play the same line of numbers for several draws without any luck to see those numbers drawn after your ticket has expired.

Close is a way of managing your feelings, I use it a lot when I get two out of three or three or three out of four digits in exact order. Actually in some weird way, using the word close is comforting and makes me feel like I'm on the right track and should not give up and you can get a little juice off of that when your not winning. But if you don't win a cent, close only stands for one thing. Loser.

BobP,I've also read that one before. Thanks for putting up the link again.So, may I take it that you're of the opinion that being close in either sense doesn't really amount to anything? I share some of that sentiment, but there are cases where being close can put quite a few bucks in your pocket. There are other cases where people are clearly under the Tony Sloane illusion.Good luck,aye

True, there is no kinship between the balls (heh), but I feel close is when I pick number 7, but number 6 or 8 is drawn. That is probably because of the way we mark the numbers in on the play card; the numbers being so close to each other consecutively.Or close can be seen as picking 4 out of 5 drawn numbers.Or when someone picks all the winning numbers, BUT does not play it LOL.Or when someone picks all the winning numbers, BUT government officials already prosecuted the state's lottery o... Close only counts in horseshoes anything else is an excuse people use when the miss by a number. It is open to many different interpretations, excuses for not getting it right. You might play 1234 and the number came out 1243 although you might have won a boxed play you were close to a pick 4 straight. But again it an excuse. One of the guys where I get my tickets got so tired of hearing me say that I almost won or I missed by one, or I woulda hit if only I had played a 2 instead of a 3 or i say... [ More ]

I determine whether or not i am close by the numbers I have right....if the draw is 1 2 3 and i have 1 2 4 or 1 2 8 i consider that closeif i have 0 3 4 i dont consider that close

So close...and yet so far away? The old saying goes... close only counts when playing the game of horseshoes ...or could we possibly expand that to include the lottery ? What is considered close and why does close matter in my lottery participation? For me, close isn't as much mathematical but rather motivational.
