With the odds being 175,711,536 to 46 you have 175,711,490 losing combinations and only 46 winning combinations when the odds are 3,819,816 to 1 you have 3,819,815 losing combinations and 1 winning combination. If you buy all 46 mega balls with the same 5 of 56 you really are improving your odds and making the game a 5/56 game

Put another way, if you buy all the possible combinations of 5/56, the MegaMillions game becomes a multi-state 1/46 game where the ticket cost $3,819,816. This might mean something to a players in California if the pari-mutuel amount for matching 5+0 ever accumulates to close that amount.

That is probably the best way to play the game. Spend 46 dollars and play the same 5 white balls. You gaurantee yourself at least $2 back and if those 5 white balls come up you will win the jackpot and make the 2nd tier prize para-mutual. So really you cut your odds down to 1 in less than 4 million. What is wrong with that?Brad
