Personally, I think a year is plenty of time unless you're in a coma. Florida only gives people 6 months and I don't like the rule stating the winner must claim the prize within 60 days of the drawing or forfeit the cash option. He/she should have at least 60 days after the claim to make that choice. I would probably only take the cash, but 60 days can go by very quickly.

Why should there be any time limit?

A lotto ticket is treated as a bearer bond. The holder is the legal claimant. As the lotto people think the holder is the winner, then the holder should be the one to determine how long before he/she/it cashes in.

Just my opinion. It should be yours. LOL

It would be a shame to be carrying it around in a shirt pocket for months and then forget to take it out of the pocket when you decided to wash the shirt.

Personally, I would have mine within the first week, after consulting with advisers...

If I win any jackpot game, my vote is to claim within a year. After they claim a ticket, they have up to 60 days to approve a cash option like MM, PB, and CA SLP.

Depends.

I didn't vote because 'Within 12 hours following the draw' wasn't one of the options.

Big jackpots, unclaimed prizes, rolls, and high speed races from Jal, New Mexico to Albuquerque leaving a trail of dead cows, elk, coyotes and the occasional space alien (Roswell) would add excitement to the game.

I'd almost move to Jal for that.
