I bet even Gail Howard is pushing for a 50% payout in NY Lotto. She wrote columns in the late NY Lottery New$, which I delivered until it folded at the end of 2001.

On top of the 38%-40% payout, NY Lotto prizes are taxable. But we need to concentrate on NY Lotto hiking the payout to at least 50%.

The only reason? Sure it played a part, but look at the numbers. An awful lot of people like multiples of 5, and seeing as was the winning combo, that played a part too.

Those above and many more consecutives, fives, decades, and other biases, are just that. They're biased because of their presentation so to speak. Humans tend to make order out of chaos.

But here's where people have a problem understanding.

The number sets such as these, 3-14-17-22-29-30, being somewhat distributed evenly don't leave strong impressions in the mind.

Have all of you forgotten my rants about NY Lotto? The only reason the 5/6 and 4/6 payouts were so low is that the NY Lotto return is only 38%-40%.

It's always good to remember that the expertise of most so-called experts is more often in their ability to market themselves than to offer sound opinions or useful info. This result reminds me of an article I once saw that claimed 1,2,3,4,5,6 is an unlikely combination because double digit numbers are more likely to be drawn than single digit numbers.
