Well said, four4me. My wife and I have kind of used this as a lesson learned for our children. Oftentimes, kids don't understand the dangers of approaching strange animals, or strange people for that matter. Just because something looks fascinating doesn't mean that it can't harm you. My kids, although still small, have a new understanding about creatures now. And will think twice when trying to pet a dog that isn't theirs or what-not.

A shame that Steve is gone, but at least he has taught tw... [ More ]

Nobody knows what a wild animal might do next. He was out of his environment. He was able to escape the predators on land because he was a bit faster than them. And we don't know if the animals he worked with on the many shows he did were sedated or not.

When he entered the water his ability to react and move swiftly was greatly diminished. According to everyone involved the sting ray was in no danger was not trapped or anything of the sort. But as i stated no one knows what an animal or sea... [ More ]

I was watching the CBS Morning Show today and this guy who runs an aquarium in Connecticut said that it's even rare for a sting ray to even sting you unless you are really threatening to kill them...they are generally very docile animals. You can pet them at any zoo I've been to.

From what they say, people get stung or 'stabbed' by Stingrays quite a bit - but it's usually in an arm or a leg, this one was a direct hit into

his heart. Anywhere else on the body and he would have survived.

I loved watching this guy, but could see he wasn't heading for a good end if he kept doing crazy stuff.

I agree...R.I.P. good friend.

The thing is that I have family that have been stung many times by stingrays, but never was in serious jeopardy. Very painful I am sure, but supposedly it got Steve in the one spot you can't afford. Kind of like getting hit in the temple just right can kill you.

Goes to show you that life is a gamble every day. A man who wrestled with crocodiles, snakes and alligators got bitten by a stingray and died. I guess next time I go into the Gulf and there are stingrays all around me, I'll take them a little more seriously. They really are beautiful to watch, but I never realized how deadly the toxins can be. Steve did a lot to attract Americans to Australia and promote the preservation of wildlife there. The title Crocodile Hunter was such a misnomer, all f... [ More ]
