I play the MegaMillions and have records of all 453 drawings since the game changed from BigGame and added Ohio to its playing states. When ever I want to test a theory I go back 50 or so drawings and create a new file with only the first 400 or so drawings and see if I can predict the next winning numbers.

Even knowing the next 50 winning numbers, I have never been able to improve my odds of coming up... [ More ]

I used to think that, in fact: I may still, but here is the problem with thinking that way:

If a lottery official(s) monitor this site, then they will need to monitor EVERY lottery site, blog, e-mail group, and everything else, everywhere on the internet, let alone private office pools, and they don't have the bodies to do that.

I used to think 'they' are watching 'my' picks and arranging it so 'my' picks never won. The problem with that is, what about everyone else that thinks... [ More ]

Is that not the defination for what I am told is the law of large numbers? You use an RNG and run several random number sets of differing sizes and then play the last number picked.

Example: Run RNG for 100,000 combinations, the same for 250,000, 500,000, 1,000,000 and so on until you reach your predetermined level. You write down the last number generated in each of these runs and then play all or some of those numbers. The law of big numbers

As you can tell, there is more then just 2 draws a week and there is more then a single machine and more then a single ball set that is used. In the 5/56 game (MegaMillions) there are 3,819,816 possible combinations. During a two month period all the MegaMillions states sell more than 30 million tickets with different combinations. Do the math, it's no phenomenon that some of them will have 5of5 five or more times during that period. Your program is not flawed but your logic is if you think playing 50 combinations should guarantee you a win. With 50 lines your odds of matching 5of5 are 1:73,396

Put a bunch of marbles in a bag...number them 1 to 56, then blindfoldedly drawn out 5 marbles.....or put it in a machine that shakes it up and allows 5 marbles to fall through a small hole........why is it over a period of time, let's say two months at twice a week......why is a player is able to correctly predict a 5 of 5 on five separate occasions?

there were some deep posts here...let me start off by just saying that the lottery is not against you. The payout is always going to be less then what they take in because common sense tells us that if they paid out higher or as high as their overall profit, they would go bankrupt!

First...I am with Emily...I spend the first 8 months of each year working for the IRS (both state and Federal) and the last 4 months for the Lottery. Thank goodness pan handling pays well or I could have never afforded that new car we just bought.

When Coretta Scott-King passed earlier this year, her birth year was sold out that day and the next. I was able to play it (played the day before for the next day) and hit when it fell. GA has had a $8 million dollar cap on Cash3 Cash4 for a few years now. They used to get killed when a trip would hit.

Cracking the lottery isn't hard, it just not affordable or practical. Payout amounts are designed such that lotteries will alway payout less than they takes in.

Yeah lottery officials are to blame but more to blame is whoever set the odds to be 146 million and something for powerball...I don't know if that was a lottery official job..But blame the lottery officials too because they were the ones to agree with all of it...

My statistics professor once told me that they have on the internet the numbers most commonly played for pick3 and pick4...

When working at store, I dont play numbers that are repeatingly played by customers. I may play around their numbers. I have better chance then..

Another thing I do is my workout system prior to going to store.. Then play two of the most common played numbers that is either one up or one down from my own.. I use the quick picks too that people are getting. For instance if I give lots of 257 numbers as qps I then play the 25 27 57 pair that shows up in my workouts..

All I know is, the owner of store reported that they film the drawing at midday. They run three and choose which will be broadcast at 6:28 pm. This was before midday draws were added. When they do midday is beyond me...

There are a lot of systems out there to use. I am having fun playing around and winning as I discover new things.. Day before yesterday.. 12 out of 15 states.. It wasn't lots of money.. but a lot of fun with those little boxes..

Still working on straights with the doubles.. and playing those routine fours.. I still believe 4's is where the money is in this daily game.. but getting 12 out of 15 pick 4's would be a lot harder...

Pick 3 and 4 are mostly non pari-mutuel SOOOO.

They are looking for lottery stats posted. Numbers are running this way a member posts. So lottery officials change ball sets or have more pre draws. who knows.

Would you think that state lotteries have stats keepers just like many of us here. They are looking for patterns just like we are and

What do you call getting slaughtered? When you play MegaMillions with odds of 1:175M of winning the jackpot and 1:50 of winning anything even $2 for matching the MegaBall, you've got to spend more than $50 to get slaughtered. Anything less is just plain losing.

That would be a non-pari-mutuel Lottery where they have to Payout a fixed amount no matter what.

In a pari-mutuel Lottery they make the Payouts lower. (NJ 03/15/2006 Evening 315 payout $144.00 on a $1 bet instead of $500

I have heard that the lottery will cut off sales on a particular number if the payout reaches too high for them to pay off a winner. For example, on 9/11, I bet that everyone and their brother played 911. Let's say they sell 2,000 tickets and 1,500 of them are 911 and 911 hits. The lottery stands to lose roughly $750,000 on that risk. They generally won't take that risk. You are correct. What I do know is that the lotteries have the right to cut off sales on certain numbers, thereby guaranteeing them profitable every day. Otherwise, they could possibly be out of business. The lotteries mathematically know what they are doing, and it doesn't take some hot predictions from this board to ensure their profits by figuring out how to prevent winners.

Your concern is similar to that of players who think the Lottery also calculates the most played number per draw and doesn't let that number fall. The less they payout the more they keep.

It wouldn't bother me if someone worked for the lottery that also surfed this site. At least they know what a lot of people think about them.

lol, funny post. Im guessing that from all the knowledgeble folks on this website, it could only seem logical that some of us are working for the lottery. I doubt it, we're kinda like outcast's breaking the game down to the point of winning on a consistent basis. Were just cracking a code most people deam impossible.

No real mystery about that, just advanced human intelligence/curiousity.

It wouldn't surprise me if a lottery official uses our opinions on his/her board...And what i think they could be monitoring is the predictions..Suppose a LP member finds a way to crack the lottery, they the officials may want to know and tell the lottery corporation so the lottery commission can lower the bar even lower or have something to go about when they unveil a new lottery...
