Floridian,

I agree that in a one-on-one situation there is almost zero chance that someone is going to get into trouble selling someone their lotto ticket. I made my point with the purpose of clarifying what reselling lottery tickets really means, and pointing out that even if it is a technicality, people should know the facts regarding its legality.

As usual, you are right on. Did you see Todd's post where he suggests that re-selling is not legal?

It may be illegal but there is absolutely no way to police it unless someone actually reports the guilty party. It would be an interesting question to ask one of our politicians in Florida. They have so much spare time on their hands I am sure they would not mind.

Floridian, I agree with everything you are saying and had thought of all that. But, I was simply responding to the legality issue and could see no prohibition against selling the ticket.

I suspect you are correct. However, as you and I have seen over the years this scenerio can have some unforseen outcomes.

Suppose the holder of a ticket was to sell it to a friend because he was experiencing a temporary funding problem, or he lost his job and needed to buy food or any number of other set backs requiring some instant cash. Reselling tickets is when you go to the store, buy some tickets, and then go find people to sell them to.

That is not legal in any state, as far as I know.

I just read the back of my lotto ticket and it doesn't say you can't resell it. It just says that you are responsible for the ticket, meaning for loss, etc. Went to the website and nothing there either. I would say that as the owner of the ticket you can do whatever you want with it.
