Well, maybe I'm just a light sleeper. Have you ever seen those large digit alarm clocks? Both items work okay (I was using a little poetic license in my post) but my point was that a gift certificate to the market or a $50 bill would have been appreciated more. I can use the hair dryer on low and it's fine.

Still, I was happy I got anything at all. It was only a comment on second chance prizes to emphasize that many people don't want what they win, so money is always the best prize IMHO.... [ More ]

Yes, Coin Toss, I think that's what I wrote in my last post. I originally read it incorrectly. BTW, they actually didn't send me anything. It's a poll on the home page of the FL web site.

I also was thinking about Fantasy5 EZ Match. You pay $1 to possibly win $300K or split it with as many as 17 other winners (17 people won one jackpot this week!) and then they expect you to add a buck for a shot at $500. It was very popular when it first began, but it's losing its fizzle.

Agree. That was my thinking on the subject. If they offer a free second chance, by asking players to mail their tickets to the lottery for a later drawing, the player has nothing to lose. Not sure if I'm allowed to copy this on LP, but this is what prompted my poll, although I was referring to all the lottery games. In this case, they are not asking for more money, which I incorrectly stated when I began the above poll. From Florida's web site:

If we offered second-chance drawings -- ent... [ More ]

Let me make sure I understand correctly. For $1 I can buy a ticket and have a chance at the standard prize offered by a game. For another $1 the state is offering a chance at a secondary prize? Why would I spend twice as much money to not get twice as many tickets and twice as many chances at the real prize? It sounds like you already know it's a sucker bet.

'No' for me. Illinois has these Second Chance drawings every so often, although there's no extra charge, it's always send in $30 in losing tickets for a chance to be in the drawing.

So far so good.

Although it was about scratch tickets, the Florida lottery recently had a poll asking if players would spend an extra dollar on a $1 ticket if the losing ticket was entered into a second chance drawing.

My question is for all games which is why I posted this in the discussion forum.

Fantasy 5 in Florida has EZ Match which pays up to $500 instantly. The ticket is a dollar and to play EZ match you add a dollar. (I never do.)
