Speaking of getting ripped off but on a smaller scale... this happened to me twice in one week at the same store but with different clerks. I play my #s and get a few snacks, and they have me pay them for everything in one transaction. In these instances I get my change a few dollars less than it should be. The total they tell me is higher than it should be and with only a few non-Lottery items even on the LCD screen they add it but somehow they put something twice so the Lottery total is off by... This poster who started this thread is crying over a situation that is long done and over with. And the lottery commission doesnt investigate off of black/white copies or poor me stories .

Re-read my post for the analysis of the ticket.

This posters story is filled with more holes then swiss cheese.

You don't actually know if it was $900 that you was cheated out of because you didn't scratch off the other prizes, so stop saying it was $900. Even if this story is true, I would still think you're partially responsible.

I actually handed over the black and white photo of the ticket to the lottery office along with my color print out of the cellphone pic.

Anyhow, I'm done with this thread. I hope someone got something positive out of it. I deffinately learned a valuable lesson. I just think it's amazing how for close to 6 months I walked around not knowing that I was cheated out of $900 by someone that I knew and whom I regularly gave business to. I must be reading this ticket wrong since I don't play scratch off tickets, but it looks to me like it says that you win X10 $100. I don't see how you could have thought this ticket was a $100. winner???? Actually if it was me who doesn't play scratch offs and I scratched this ticket I would have scratched everything including the other prizes. I also would have thought I won the 100 X10 plus what ever the other prizes were.

Actually i had no clue how much I truly had won until I saw the scratched off black and white ticket hanging from the store's counter.

The ticket basically says I win all 10 prizes. Since I hadn't scratched all then prizes, the person at the lottery office told me she had no clue how much the ticket could have been for.

I''m guessin' sympathy: If you want sympathy you have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your scratchy ticket and my congratulations on your receipt of the stolen money. Thanks for astutely pointing that out, GameGrl! I don't often play instant game tickets, so it didn't hit me that only the winning prize was showing. You're right - that wouldn't make any sense.

However, if I strain my eyes long enough, I don't think it says the prize will be 10 x $100 ($1,000) it says get a star symbol and win all 10 prizes automatically doesn't it? Whilst I am a skeptic on the photo- the ticket itself does say Get the star and win all ten prizes. That part is seemingly true. But since you so eagerly posted this picture, I'll go completely off the ticket itself , whether you are the true owner of it or not. The rest of the prizes were NOT scratched off so it remains to be seen what THOSE other nine prize values were. So the best I can come up with is. 1: A star was on the ticket. 2: there was a $100.00 listed under it.

haha.

well here's my ticket.. that basically saved me. Unless I had the black and white copy with the VOID IF REMOVED scratched off I wouldn't have had much of a case though because it's hard to prove teh tickets..

As you can see the bottom of the ticket where it shows the 100 bucks also has a tiny writing which says X10 under teh star... I hadn't read that cause i was so excited and the bastard at the store took advantage of me.

It was a plausable story, but I didn't believe it, either. There are just too many ways to alter things, anyone can change the date/time in a cell phone camera IF they know what buttons to push, that takes a tech-level person on some phones as the correct keystrokes are unpublished.

It's possible that this story is true, but there were too many inconsistencies. On the other hand, not everyone can express himself well in writing, especially composing a lengthy story on a board. This story proves that some people should never buy lottery ticket's..You can operate a cell phone and other contraptions and don't know if you have a winner or not....If you have a pool at work make sure someone else buys the ticket's and holds them for you...You got your moneys worth on that ticket!...

THat was a prank I played about last year.

VBMX got his money, tax free for HIM, and I'd consider the tax consequences a penalty to the guys that illegally or unknowningly cashed it in. For all we know the store clerk told the stooge that cashed it in that he (the clerk) won it, but since he works there he could not cash it in....

The best defense against this kind of fraud is to make sure the clerk scans the ticket (YOUR ticket, be careful! A shifty enough clerk could have a few $3.00 winners up his sleeve...) and the termial readout is facing you. (if facing away that's already a bad sign!) the terminal will say PAY (prize amount) or something similar or FILE CLAIM if it requires a claim form. When that similar story ran out of Cleveland last week, I wondered why the Ohio Lottery representative they interviewed never out pointed the taxes. The part about her getting some of the money back from the clerk was very strange too.

It's obvious in this story the store owner ripped off $900 and paid somebody to sign the ticket.

Who paid the taxes on that ticket? In Ohio, to cash a winning ticket over $599, you have to show proper I.D. and fill out and sign a form with your SS# and address so you can be mailed a W-2G to file with you taxes. Putting false information on that form is a punishable crime. If the store owner had to pay the Federal and State taxes on that $1000 ticket and you didn't, who scam who?

So I believe it's time to share an interesting personal story with everyone here now that the smoke has cleared.

Roughly 2 years ago.. early in the morning I went to a convenient store to buy a coffee and a $10 scratch ticket. The coffee was a usual for me and I went into that store many times to get coffee. However I normally do not buy $10 scratch tickets.
