Thank you for posting that summary, very well said.

Based on feedback I'll be adding a little helper tip and a few other things to spell it out clearly on the page.

But I also want to make sure it's clear that the way the control functions right now is standard for Internet forums. When I build a new feature, if that feature exists on other Internet forums I try to mimic the behavior so that people will not have to learn something new.

Lets see if I got this right.

I tried some trial and error.

When I open the forum like pick 3 or any other. The topics that have been rated will show on the forum page. I can click the star rating and get who voted without my vote registering.

When I open a topic that has been rated and I have not voted on that topic I will put my browser arrow on the stars. Putting the arrow on the stars when I have not voted will not show how many rated the topic. When I run the browser arrow back an... [ More ]

For a while I pinned some of the e-mails to my wall, so I could get my mind used to the fact that I would trudge on toward my visions and goals without being held back by some people who had a different vision of what things should be like.

You're right...It'll morph into something that will be a shortcut to a descision. That tagging with the key word feature will be good too, because It'll narrow it down even further.

Hey Pac, thanks for the input. Like any of the other features that measure something on Lottery Post, there are always some people who won't like it. That is as certain as the sun will rise tomorrow.

However, as I alluded to earlier, the ratings over time will become part of the vibrant and rich Lottery Post landscape, and peoples' usage of the ratings will grow better over time, especially as the newness wears off.

But you never know, Florida has a tendency to name multiple locations by the same name. And very close by to boot.

We have 3 developments here called Village walk . Who thought that was a good idea? Now I have to ask the customers which one are you going to.....LOL

Cool to know Todd. Personaly, I don't have that mousy thingy goin on there. I knew I was good at something. I just knew it.

I love the ratings feature. A lot of good points were brought up about how it could be manipulated with eroneous ratings, whether it's because of a personal thing goin on there, or whatever. But I think that most people will use their conscience and do the right thing.

Believe it or not, a couple of years ago I found out anyone can set the computer to adjust the click features. It was designed for older folk who couldn't double-click fast enough. The down side is that you lose the single click feature,in the process.

I learned it on the Kim Komando show....LOL

One thing I learned long ago is that it is literally impossible to make everyone happy. So I just do what i know is the right thing, and then at least I'm happy with myself.

Ratings are common among busy forums, because they give members in the know the ability to direct people to the best topics. It is certainly possible to see negative things in ratings, but just like all the other features at LP, you will use it for a while and then wonder how you lived without it. Trust me.

Until I figured out how it worked I had given some of my posts a five star..

Others rated them low.. However, the view are climbing..

I take it that they don't like the post, but have to look to see what the next prediction will be..

Whatever cranks their tractor is fine with me..

Another way to use this, would be to consider who does/ who doesn't like you...

Thanks for speaking up, lottolaughs. I was thinking the same thing. On the one hand, I like all the improvements Todd makes, since this is such a great site. On the other, rating threads might keep some people from posting new topics. Anyway, I don't look at the ratings much. Look at American Idol! Stephanie got voted off and Sanjaya is still hanging on. So ratings are only as reliable as the people who are voting.

Maybe I'm in the minority here,but I don't care much for these ratings . Obviously if a topic is interesting and people are watching and responding,the thread will remain at the top. Something that is of interest to one may not be interesting to anyone else but why should it be graded? And if people see a poor rating they might not even look at the thread to begin with and it actually may hold some interest for them.

Ok......now I get it! I didn't have any trouble rating a post, just viewing the results. After reading this thread, I understand it now. To see the results...double click! This is awesome! I think it is great way to let a poster know that we really appreciate the time and effort they are putting into the thread. Sometimes we forget to say "thanks", so this feature really does that and let's them know their work is appreciated! A great feature...

No, I don't think you are in the minority. Well, at least I agree with you! However, there are times when 50 people at once are posting, so a topic can disappear from the home page in seconds and I need to use the search feature to see the daily topics.

It's not just Firefox, that's the way it works in every browser -- purposely. I don't think someone can adequately rate a topic without first viewing it, right? And it's not like voting on a poll, where you need to cast a vote in order to see the poll results.

Rating a topic does NOT bump it up. The only two things that bump a topic are new replies and voting on a poll.

I agree on your middle paragraph.

In Firefox, when I click the ratings box from the forum topics page (without having the thread open), I can see who voted even before I vote myself. When I have the thread open, the first click rates the thread, then the next click also shows the ratings.

Glad you added that feature, cuz somebody got into a snit or something earlier and was rating all of one member's posts low. Now maybe they'll think first.

I think you're mistaking the slight pause for nothing happening. Just click once. The only reason you would click a total of two times is if your first click is to rate the topic, and the second click to view the ratings.

Don't double-click anything. There are two ways to view the ratings:

After you rate a topic (by clicking ONCE on the amount of stars YOU want to rate it), after the rating is saved, the next time you click it you will see everyone's ratings.When viewing the topic listings (the forum page), you can click on any of the ratings (next to the titles of the topics) and it will show you.

Mike, YES, it shows the names.

This has been a planned enhancement for a long time -- ever since I put those mysterious stars on the upper-left corner of each topic.

I am finally finished with the new enhancement to the ratings that lets you see who rated the topic, and what they gave it.
