Not so sure it's about catching people who play Pick 3 in various locations. I think it's more to do with marketing.

What's probably going to happen is people with the frequent player's cards will get promos in the mail and via e-mail to get them to play more and more and more.

Last night I was thinking about the players who buy separate Pick 3 or Pick 4 tickets with the same number so if the number wins, they can collect the $500 separately from each ticket and not have to fill out tax forms.

This VIP card would be the perfect way for the govt to see that a player won enough to declare and pay taxes on. Do you suppose this is how they're planning on paying for these rewards? By collecting taxes they've previously been unable to collect

I personally don't mind Customer Loyalty Programs/VIP programs from a few places that I buy from. But I don't trust ANY State Government that shares information with the IRS. Look you said it yourself that you get 1 point for every dollar spent. Now turn that around and think about it, yes you got it, you can bet your bottom dollar that if you win any size amount and they scan that VIP card it's logged who received what and how much. Good Point! Can you use an alias or perhaps a user name on the card instead of having to use your real name? The card may have more appeal, then.

Another thing I just noticed, it has your name on both the card and the points receipt the machine prints. There are some clerks who seem so creepy I wouldn't give my name to them for anything. It's so easy to find out where someone lives now, ya just have to plug it into a search engine and voila!

Okay, no need to be polite. Just call me paranoid. I KNOW that's what you're thinking. lol

it sounds like the type of thing they have with casinos and i thought it would mean that they would send me alot of junk mail but it hasnt happened that way so i dont think i would have a big problem if tennessee started to do that because any bonus or extra would be nice...

I was wondering about other implications. I just got my card today, so haven't really thought about it, tho I did use it to buy my Powerball ticket for this Wed. drawing. And while I was standing there waiting for the clerk to figure out how to use it (I was her first, she actually had to call the Lottery offices to help her) I got this uneasy feeling that maybe I shouldn't be using it without thinking of all the implications.

Right on the money!

Maybe more states should follow suit. I don't think it'll happen. They have no clue about what it means to throw a bone to the masses. The word reciprocity means nothing in their realm. It's all about the bottom line.

If they only knew how much more they could bring in by sharing just a very small fraction.

If you look at any business, you'll see that most have offers to attract business. It's not good enough to just advertise.

Anything back for some of us is a good deal. I've read comments from some people who said that they had'nt had a win in so many months or years. I'm sure that a rebate coming their way would be appreciated.

I didn't make that clear, it's not a credit card they scan, but a Rewards Card issued by the Idaho lottery. You can't buy lottery with credit cards here, either, tho you can use a debit card.

I don't think anyone should worry about the scanning of your credit card, because then we would have to constantly worry about it when purchasing anything. I think using common sense as to where you use it will suffice. I'm thinking that the Idaho lottery can be trusted as much as the local food mart.

Even if they introduced something similar here in Florida, it wouldn't work unless the officials changed the rules of purchase. Here in Florida, you can't purchase tix with a credit card. Not e... [ More ]

The Idaho lottery has had a VIP club for some years, which consisted of them sending you a coupon for a free $1 scratch-off on your birthday.

Now they've expanded it to a Rewards Program whereby they scan your card each time you play a lottery game that is machine-generated (scratch-offs are not included) and you get 1 point for each dollar you spend.

The minimum points you need to claim a reward is 500, which will take me over 2 years to accumulate at my current rate of purchase.
