Awesome, glad you're now upgraded. You'll find it has much greater compatibility with all web sites. There are a few things at Lottery Post that work better under IE7 (as opposed to IE6).

They must have changed the technology since the last time I looked at it (admittedly several years ago). It used to be that you would receve via the dish and transmit via the phone. I do know that the regular satellite that delivers TV does not itself receive signals, so maybe there is some kind of add-on technology that sends the signal elsewhere.

I chose the slowest connection speed they have but it is still 512kb for downloads and 128kb for uploads but phone lines are not connected to the dish or modem in any way. So it can not be a receiver only. As far as how it is going to send information? I assume just like a cell phone. Do they not send and receive too? What are the speeds for DSL or cable? Is the speed not comparable

Satellite connections sometimes use dial-up for uploads (or any type of send , such as requesting a web page). Think about it: how is your satellite dish going to send information? It is only a receiver of information. Therefore, I'm not sure it qualifies as broadband , at least in the strict sense of the word.

is it T1 connection? and how fast when surfing any website? well one thing the different between broadband and dial up is the download file and upload must be the same maybe around 128 kbps is it?

Some people initially have a problem because it has a simpler interface, using buttons instead of lots of drop-down menus. However, the menus are available by pressing the Alt button, so it's not a big deal. Personally, I love the cleaner interface.

I am not aware of anything that won't work as a result of upgrading. In fact, the only thing I have experienced is many more things that actually work correctly, and better performance.

I am so happy to hear your report. That's exactly the intent of the diagnostics -- to help you see what can be done to improve your experience here.

I think there is an issue with the SSL detection. It may be a firewall problem. In other words, a firewall on your PC may be blocking the report's ability to detect SSL. I'm going to have to check into it. The important thing is don't worry about that setting right now. Just ignore the warning until I can get more clarification on it.

hey now Todd,

i really like this! there were some issues reported with my system, and i am currently downloading an upgrade for both ie/netscape browsers. it also said my screen was too small, i changed it to the required settings and walla-walla, i can now see my full screen in view without scrolling side to side, unlike before, the entire view looks better.

now um a dial up kinda' gal, so i don't have dsl just yet! ;-) now there is one issue i don't know how to fix, it's about ssl,... [ More ]

The page is not 100% accurate. It says that I have SSL disables when I have both 2.0 and SSL 3.0 turn on and the page also says that I have a dial-up connect when in fact I have broadband. I use a satellite connection. A satellite connection is considered broadband, isn't it

I have never tried doing it because as each version of windows came out i tried to stay on top of it. At first i hated the look and feel of win xp but that feeling went away after a few days. At some point in time people with older PC's and operating systems must surly have difficulties... [ More ]

I have a question about the new login page. Used to able to just click on the box and my name and password would fill in automatically. I checked the Remember Me box but it doesn't work. Is there any way to fix this so I don't have to punch in all that info every time I want to log on

Sorry for the bent out of shape comment, if it was inappropriate.

That is interesting about the SSL flag. One way to tell for sure if it is working is to download a network packet sniffer and examine the traffic coming out of your PC onto a secure page. You could fire up the sniffer and have it record the traffic as you login on the LP Secure Login page.

I am well aware of where the progress of the net is at. I know what DSL/Cable feels like - I also know what it costs. You can get mimimum DSL for less than $20/mo in my area. I consider it too expensive for a hobby toy (whatever you want to call a computer). I wouldn't go back to being on the net in DOS for free but I also wouldn't consider DSL or cable at this point in time.

IE 7 is recommeneded for XP or better. It should not be installed on Win98 or ME.

Wow, you really did go through all the various stages! WebTV is almost unusable. I've tried it in hotel rooms -- some hotels used to put WebTV in the rooms before wireless internet was widely installed. A horrible internet experience.

Broadband internet feels the way the internet ought to. Things happen at the speed humans can digest. You can watch videos and surf the net at the same time. You can download things quickly, so you don't have to schedule downloads to happen overnight.

I'm happy with it. I went thru the different stages. 1st Webtv, 2nd dial up, 3rd DSL, and now 3 meg broadband. When available in my area I will upgrade to the 6 meg.

When you folks get warnings, don't get so personally offended. The page is letting you know that there are ways of improving your experience here. Anything with a warning is NOT IDEAL .

For example, Bob, OF COURSE you can see the page at 800 x 600. But that is a very old standard, and I do not design the pages to look good at that resolution. I am right with you Bob...I am plenty happy to connect to the net for $5.95/month. Wish sites would just back off on running Macromedia (Adobe) flash ads on every page. (Not a problem at LP - Todd runs very minimal ads).

My IE window is maximized so if it isn't exactly 800x600, that's all she's got.

There's not much I like about Vista. I am still playing with it. Until or if I get it right, it isn't going on the net. If sites won't continue to program for Win98 - guess I won't be vi... [ More ]

With no annoying bottom scroll bar I don't see how my screen size is a problem. It didn't like my dial up service either, like I need to pay twenty dollars more every month. BobP

The warnings are just that ... warnings. There are only a few things that cause a fail message. The warnings just let you know about things that hurt your experience, but they are not deal-breakers.

If you don't know what a term means, go to www.wikipedia.com and type it there. It's much better to learn what these things mean, because they are really BASICS on the internet ... things that every person should know.

IE upgrade is free, but I have not been able to do it because it interferes with another program I use and I have to wait for the problem to be corrected. Otherwise, I think it is perfectly safe.

Just so everyone is aware, any security bugs that may exist with the latest versions of Firefox (or IE for that matter) are far less significant than the security bugs that exist in older versions, like version 1.x.

If you are holding off on upgrading because of warning about a current exploit, don't!

I have 2 warnings. One for browser type, and the other for browser window. I also have 2 infos. The infos are about my clock and zones. I can't keep the clock in the correct time. For some reason, when I fix it to the correct time, the next time I log in it goes back to being an hour ahead. It's been like this since I bought my computer.

I finished adding a new page to Lottery Post that examines the current web browser you're using across a variety of metrics, and reports the level of compatibility with Lottery Post.

Any problems are clearly identified, along with solutions to fix them.

A nice feature is that the login page now silently tests your browser before logging in, and will automatically go to the trouble report if it senses something that will cause problems with the login.
