It almost certainly is a state law. It isn't your credit card company's idea, because they want you to buy absolutely everything with it so they'll get their cut. Blue laws aren't as common as they once were, but the puritans are still working hard to make sure your morals are good enough. They can't stop you from drinking, but they can still keep you from buying alcohol before noon on Sunday. They can't stop you from gambling, but using your credit card to finance that sinful habit is still a... [ More ]

Really? You can't use a credit card to buy gas or a bag of ice or anything?

That's another good thing about using the gift card, I also buy ice and milk at the c-store and used to pay cash cuz there's no way I'm pulling out a credit card for a $4 purchase. Now I can get rewards for my small purchases there too. It all adds up

thank u for sharing that LuckyLilly. Now I know I can use the gift card from work we get occasionlly, on lottery, lol but in c-stores here, we can't use debt or credit cards. I thank heaven for that since I would have to worry my husband's lottery scratch-off ticket spending.

You can buy lottery anywhere here with a debit card, but not a credit card whether they know you or not. I've been told it's a state law, but I'm not sure of that.

Huh???? Nowhere did I even suggest I was buying lottery tickets just to get the rewards. I'm finding ways to put stuff I already buy onto my rewards card. I might as well get the rewards if I can.

And I'm not using my credit card to buy stuff I can't afford. I pay it in full every month. Again, I'm just finding ways to increase my rewards with stuff I'm already buying.

I'm not suggesting anyone else use their credit card to buy anything they can't afford either, especially not lotte... [ More ]

LuckyLilly

Everything stavros and tnlotto1 said and more. Whatever 'rewards' you are after, it would be much less costly in the long run to just directly purchase them than to get them with points racked up via losing lottery tickets.

It's nice to think that the tickets might win, and win a jackpot, but the reality is in a very short time you'll wish you had just bought the stuff, if you really need it at all.

Casinos use 'chips' (actually they are cheques) because they're not 'real... [ More ]

I don't think it's a good idea to accept a credit card for lottery purchases. It is then too easy to bet when you don't have the cash on hand, and that could be disasterous. If you don't have the cash, you don't bet

Around here, lottery purchases can not be paid for by credit card. But I really wanted to find a way to put lottery on my rewards card to rack up more rewards. A few weeks ago I was gifted a Shell gas card, and found out that you can buy anything in the c-store, including lottery, with the gift card. That means I can buy a Shell card with my credit card, and then I can buy lottery with the Shell card, which doesn't charge any fees. And voila! I get rewards for lottery purchases.

Anyo... [ More ]
