OK, let me say this:

When doing your research, look at ALL of the Powerball drawings, not just the ones where a person wins a jackpot.

No winner for 9/15 ? Or for 9/12, etc. ? You still need to look at the numbers that were drawn, and see what those games (that nobody won) have, how they would fit into a 'system'.

A good 'system' ?

It depends on what you call a 'system', because a 'system' can be anything from picking numbers based on important dates in your life, such as birthday... [ More ]

I suspect if such a player existed, there would be an investigation to see if he had friends or family members connected to the drawings or had a way of hacking the terminals after a drawing to produce a winning ticket. No one would believe a system could do that even with thousand of tickets.

It is incredible that a lottery player does not know this, maybe then players think that the lotteries are there to give them money and maybe even make them rich.

No way of telling, but I would also think that since the jp was so high, a lot of people who normally don't play daily also played that day, and they would play quickpicks.

So perhaps the percentage of qps to self-picks was not that different than normal.

What it tells is that neither randomness nor systems paid out for a while.

Most systems don't know how much the payout is, and the idea behind creating a system is not to hit on a particular day over any other day. That would imply that everyone who had a system for this game should throw it away because it didn't hit on this specific drawing.

In Pick 5 and Pick 6 games the second place prize amounts to chump change, all things considered (relative to the jackpot).

People who suppossedly have a system and can hit 4 of 5 or 5 of 6 occassionallu may like to see themselves as a threat, but the lottery doesn't consider them a threat.

In those games most of those lower tier prizes just go towards more lottery tickets and the lottery is well aware of this.

PowerBall was concerned when all those folks matched 5/5+0 for $200K using numbers they got from a fortune cookie. Lotteries know if players can improve their odds of winning any prize, they also will improve their odds of winning the jackpots too.

Fixed payouts for the lower prizes are based on anticipated results. If those results cost more than anticipated, it's likely the game will be changed or discontinued.

That alone shows that they do care how many people win and also that they care about the amount that people win.

Anybody who is in business, is in business to make money.

There are lotteries to make money, so of course they care about how much money they make, they even say so themselves.

Statistics from the prediction board should only be used as a guide because they can be misleading. For example I post predictions for WVa Cash25(6/25),Ohio Classic Lotto(6/49) and Hoosier Lotto(6/48) and a win in any of those games are treated the same while in reality the odds of 6of6 in Cash25 are 1:177K while the odds of a 6of6 in a 649 game are 1:13M, Cash25 has a top prize of $25K while most pick6 games have a minimum top prize of $2M. As I said: Most people buy quick picks and 'There are relatively very few GOOD systems players out there .

So even on the lower prizes, most of those lower prizes go to people who bought quick picks.

But those very few Good systems players, do win lower prizes more often than the other players, BUT NOT more often than ALL the other players combined

These is according to what I have seen online here and off line there.

i agree with what you said about people who play their own number sometimes dont use systems. until i found lottery post i had never heard of a lottery system most people were just telling me they used birthdays and anniversaries to pick their lottery numbers but those people also had never won a jackpot

I've been playing the Florida Fan5/36 lottery 4 times a week since January.

During that time, I've won 38 QPs (2/5) and 14 cash prizes.

I pick my own numbers, 5 sets per drawing.

Only 1 of the QPs has produced a winning ticket - 3/5 for $10.

I think the choice between QPs and personal techniques is like beaty. It's all in the

eyes of the beholder.

As to the pick 3, it is the same people winning more often than others, over and over and over.

They win more often, bacause their method or system gives them more winning numbers than quick picks do to those who buy them.

Those who buy quick picks don't win very often on the pick 3.

Those who pick their numbers according to a good statistical system or method will win on the pick 3 more often.

I've also done the same using facts and observations of previous lottery drawings.

When I share an ideas with others at LP I'm not trying to prove anything but I am interested in their opinions. I'm even more interested if their opinions are based on the same facts and observations I based my ideas. People look at the same data sometime and come to different conclusions.

I've already proven to myself that there are ways to get a very good edge on Pick5 and Pick 6 games. I'm also not concerned with proving it to others because just like everyone else playing the lottery, I'm in it for MYSELF. As long as I believe my system works, that's all that matters.

The difference is people who track results, analyze, plot, scheme, work out odds / evens. hot and cold numbers choose to do it thinking it will give them an edge and they're working for themselves. If the extra effort isn't paying off they can choose to stop.

All they know is how many people play Quick Pick or select their numbers by some other method which does not always mean a system or software. Playing family birthdays isn't a system any more then pattern marking is or doing your own random thing.

I agree. If a player thinks using a strategy to pick a few numbers is as good as picking 10 times as many randomly then he's , but many do it for entertainment too. I for one enjoy picking my own numbers.

The only way you're going to have 68% odds is if you buy all 68% of the combinations that can be made with 2 or 3 odd numbers. The prizes are all for having the same numbers, not having the same pattern.

Maybe there were a lot more self picks played than usual. It's an even safer bet that there were more QP's than usual. We know that when the jackpots get really big a lot of people who don't normally play decide to grab a ticket or five, and the occasional players are probably more likely to play QP's. If anything, I'd guess that as the jackpot goes up the percentage of QP's goes up, making it even more likely that a QP will win.

The point is that for all the tracking and charting and plotting people do it uusually goes for naught and the winning ticket is a QP time after time.

So on that sense it's

People use strategy after strategy, hi-lows, odds/evens, etc...and a QP wins the jackpot.

It's like why bother with anything else.

That is correct. If you had 1 person that represented all the people who bought quick picks, and 1 person who represented all the people who bought self picks, the person with the quick picks would win majority of the time.

The overall majority of players choose Q picks because it easier. In todays hurried lifestyle most people don't have time to fill out a play slip.

It simply easier to say give me a quick pick.

Those people who choose their own numbers do so because they have a gut feeling about their picks are probably regular lottery players or play the same numbers every day. Then there are the 1% who might play a wheel.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make about players picking their own numbers. Are you saying numbers picked by players are less likely to win than those picked randomly by a terminal? Do players have a bias that make them more likely to eliminate the winning numbers from their picks? It seems like luck is a factor either way but luck favors the side with the most tickets.

The numbers still out there are 70% of all winners are QP's, and 70% of all sales are QP's, so that is inline with what a person should expect.

Still, I don't like QP's because I've bought a few before, and I don't like the odds: I've been sold 5/0's and 0/5 splits, with numbers like 12-13-14-16-20, and so on, and those rarely hit (Yes, I know, all it takes is just one time for that to hit..), but still, if the odds are 68% towards a 2/3 or 3/2, the odds are about 8% on a 5/0 o... Whether you are playing pick3 or pick 5 luck is the biggest factor.

you can do several things to inprove your chance of winning but in the end unless you cover every possibility you are depending on fate/luck/karma, or whatever you choose to call it, to make yours the winning combination.

True, but wouldn't you think with thsat kind of payout for a Pick 5 (5/39) a lot more people with 'theories' were taking the jump from 'paper trading' to live action?

There was probably a lot more non-quick picks played than usual but yet it was still a QP that won it.

For this game, anyway, it looks like QP + Luck is King

Illinois Little Lotto paid out $1,150,000 to a quick pick last night.

It's a Pick 5 game and the jackpot starts at $100,000. Obviously it didn't get hit for a few draws to get to over one million.

With a Pick 5 game and a jackpot that high it's a pretty good guess that a lot of people were playing more than they normally play on it, and you can also bet that the systems players were playing heavie... [ More ]
