Actually, it seems like a situation where a person has to be there to really know what happened. By reading, one can form an opinion that is not accurate. And, there is no cause for flat out calling someone rude when none of us was there to witness it. It also seems the lady staring at her playslips was oblivious to anyone or anything going on around her. But, again, I nor anyone of us was there.

Thanks for the laugh, Mike. I was rude because someone spent 15 minutes staring blankly at cards scattered all over the counter and hadn't decided what to bet. I'm a pushy person because the clerk took my card since she was standing there not doing anything and wanted to help someone. I guess you also believe that if someone has 30 items in the express line that, if I said something to the cashier, I would be rude. Here is what you said: Tonight (Sunday) I was waiting to buy my Fantasy5 ticket and a woman in front of me had about a dozen pick-3 cards. When I gestured to the clerk, she took my card without hesitation. The way you sound, I shoved the woman aside! As I wrote in my last post, she was still standing at the counter staring at her cards when I left the supermarket.

You weren't there, so how would you know who was being rude? Standing at the counter infront of other customers doesn't automatically guarantee that you deserve the clerk's entire attention or that people who were behind you shouldn't be taken care of. Sometimes when one feels the need to play additional numbers after tickets have been filled out, its better Karma to leave the line pay for what was scanned by previous filled out tickets and fill out new ones with the numbers,( U might actually think twice and that has worked in my favor also BY NOT PLAYING) Quick Picks in additional to another order are okay no sweat for the clerk but sometimes it is IN-Conconvient to the purpose of other people in line..If theres no one around and its u and t... Strange I should see this thread today.

When I went to buy my tickets earlier, the young person at the counter was cashing in some scratch offs. The guy behind him was waiting to get a check approved, and I was third in line. I make my playslips out at the house so I don't have to rush and have every opportunity to see they are what I want to play before heading out.

While the clerk was totalling and making his change, the young man is scratching the tickets he just bought.

I always use playslips. I think it just makes the whole process easier. Although, there still have been mistakes made. Usually it's because the terminal had been acting up or something.

Hi Icnumbers!

I am very selective as to where I buy my ticket(s).

You have to remember that when a person wins the lottery, the retailer who sold the winning ticket gets a nice check just for selling it....

So keep in mind that you don't have to give your money to someone who mistreats you.

There was one 7- Eleven store that I use to go to....until the clerk yelled at me for only spending $1 on lotto.

-A while back the PB matrix changed, I played tickets for January, using betslips. They printed with a start date of Feb. 25!

-Most of the ticket agents don't seem to know what Pairs are. They look at me funny or if I win on one they can't figure out

how I did that.

-Always use betslips, and make sure there aren't any missing/extra marks or anything that could trip up the machine. Stockpile them because a lot of times the Store is out of them.

I spoke to a convenience store owner and he told me the store selling lottery tickets is a convenience for the customers.

I realized this even before he told me this. I like to be courteous to other people in line. I will usually wait a few minutes for the line to go away.

It is like the people in the grocery store who pay with credit card in the express lane and annoys everyone else in line.

Just because you are entitled to do something, doesn't mean you do it.

I agree with you.But justxploring was being rude when she cut in line to pay for her ticket.Just because a person in front of you is slow is no reason to be rude and to cut in line ahead of them.This person might have had a legitimate reason to be slow.She might have been trying to explain to the rude clerk that her lottery purchase was rang up wrong and the lottery tickets spread across the counter to show the rude clerk where she made the mistake.Just because someone doesn't move as fast as yo... I believe customers have an obligation to hurry along, especially if someone is waiting behind them.

In express lines (12 items or less) DON'T go thru with 15 items (unless you get an OK from the clerk, which they do when that line isn't busy).

If you are going to pay by check, have the check made out ahead of time before reaching the register. If a credit/debit card, have the darn card in your hand - not buried in your purse/wallet. Same for cash, get it ready, don't create a situation w... [ More ]

The owner of the store where I buy my tickets put up a TV that you can see while you wait in line. As long as your doing something else it doesn't seem like much of wait...... compared to waiting a full minute for something you know should only take about 15 seconds to do....It is fun to watch people get upset though,,(while I am the last person in line).

A lot of stores sell lottery tickets to attract costumers for their more profitable items. One of the stores/service station where I buy my tickets has a drive thur window and they won't sell lottery tickets at that window, they only sell them at the inside counter. They sell a lot of beer, cigarettes and pop at the window but no lottery tickets.

I don't know how much profit they make on lottery tickets,but I assume its enough that most convenience stores,gas stations and grocery stores sell them.If they were not profitable,no one would sell them.

If those in line want to be waited on sooner,they should have arrived sooner

Sorry - the OP does say a slip was filled out. Maybe it wasn't scanning correctly, so it certainly isn't Wheeler's fault. It's happened to me. One night I filled out a card twice and the clerk couldn't get it through.

Living in Florida, I am used to people spending a lot of time at the counter and/or asking lots of questions. I also get interrupted when I'm trying to conduct business. However, if it's your turn and you aren't being difficult or unreasonable, don't worry about the people in back of you. Still, I always use a card, even when I get QPs. In Ga a lot of places have a sign that ask you to fill out your playslip before heading to the counter.. I think it is common courtesy to do that..and it avoids mistakes that can be made when you call out your number. I have never had a bad experience playing my numbers...

It's peer pressure. The clerk was pressured by those waiting in line. A smart cleark would not be hostile to the first person in line trying to please the person in the backend. Rather please all, because the person in the back is huffing and puffing towards the person in the front, not the clerk.

They make plenty of money off of the sale of lottery tickets.If they didn't make money off of lottery tickets they wouldn't be selling lottery tickets.Maybe they don't make as much off of lottery tickets as they do from their overpriced milk bread,but its only because they can't charge more for the tickets than the state allows.Why should a person buy something they don't want when they buy lottery tickets

They'e probably impatient becasue they make no money off the sale of just lottery tickets. Unless you're buying at least a llittle something else, they feel you are holding up their profit line .

I usually buy my tickets at the Customer Service counter at the Super Market I shop in, or at a convenience store where I at least get a cup of coffee and a doughnut in the morning. They have always been much more cordial, even when the terminal does something weird with the ticket.

I wasbuyingh lottery the other day and the lady kept treying to run thru the slip and said i had too many numbers and i saw no i play the same slip eveyweek then she said well there are others customers waiting and I SAID I DINT CARE ABOUT THE OTHER CUSTOMERS BECAUSE I AM STILL THE CUSTOMER. needless to say I told the manager the next day and they fired her after they went back and wathced the tape of her huffing and puffing and being rude to me.

As long as I have legitimate business at the counter I don't care if there is a hundred people in line behind me.I was there first and those behind me can mutter,cuss and swear all they want,they're just gonna have to wait.As for the clerk behind the counter,he/she is getting paid to wait on me as well as those behind me.If he/she doesn't like it,he/she needs to find another job.

Not a bad idea- but ironically they don't always have playslips available

Once I went to play my numbers after I got off work so I didn't have to come back out at a place where I normally don't go. I had about 10 numbers with no play slip. Mind you not when I started there was no line and then what you think there it was. People huffing and puffing and the clerk got impatient and cut me off as if people cigarette habit was more important than mine.
