I don't know if is a great idea, but please i'll like all LP members to weigh in on this...

You could simple start a yes or no poll asking if people would be interested in contributing to get a good idea of how many members would be involved.

, it really depends on how many active members and that number is probably under 1000. I doubt there would be $50,000 put into the fund and with such a broad distribution suggestion Money that we can use for important stuff or stuff we need, like an Emergency Fund, each year there will be 250,000 in a fund that we [LP community] can use for emergencies or other stuff, think about it as or LP own Bank. , it would certainly be a huge responsibilty on the person running it.

There is no law, rule or regulation that governs gifting . If I commit to giving $1.00 per month for a year or 2 or 5, the law has nothing to do with what I determine to do with my money, especially if I decide to use it as a gift to myself - which is what a Birthday Club is, a type of savings (interest-free) because the interest on the accumulated funds is used for charitable purposes and this is accepted and understood in signing on for membership.

LP or any other organization/web site could not do what you're saying -- collecting money from people and banking it. Any company or person who did that would need a banking license. It would also need to be regulated like a bank, or at the very least like a broker.

This is what PayPal went through a number of years ago. They were starting to hold money for people, and then the states came after them and forced them to modify their procedures so that they would not be doing anything... [ More ]

While we have over 50,000 members that doesn't mean they are active members. Many of them may have joined while surfing the web they may have visited a few times and never came back. When i wrote this post there were 1306 people on-line on Lottery Post. your idea sounds good --- might look good, but may not be feasible. A person cannot operate an independent lottery. and what you all fail to see over and over, that for the same 175 million combinations that Powerball has and is very likely as likely as a 99.7% likely that if you hit powerball you will hit a Pick5/5 and not the bonus ball which only pays 200,000 dollars...For that same amount i rather go after Texas two steps or crack virginia cash5 or west virginia cash25 or even better, pick4...

well i don't know it looks like a raffle but at the same time it looks like a charity...Raffles are selected randomly, we are selecting the weakest link of our community....

i don't know it could be a raffle as well as it could not, i never thought of it...It will have to be research to see wheather is a raffle or not....And i wasn't thinking in Todd of running it i was thinking more of a selected/appointed Treasurer to run it...

Are you sure pumpi76 want Todd to run it? I was thinking he was thinking about running it himself, after all it would be better for him then winning a lottery if he could get 50,000 people to send him $10-$20 with good odds of never seeing any of it again.

I'm far from being an legal expert, but from my years of experience in different fields, I have learned a lot of things. First , this sounds like you want Todd to run an illegal lottery, breaking many interstate laws. I don't think anyone can run a lottery, except state and federal governments.
