So far, I've identified several strategies

First, selecting the game:

There's the basic expectation where you sum up the products of the prize value and the probability of hitting that prize. This doesn't take into account the volatility of the game such as with Super Set For Life where it's pretty much all on none.

There's rating the games by the sum of the log value of the prize value to price ratio divided by the log value of the odds against for that prize. This favours the lower... [ More ]

They're like slot machines, the algorithms pay back a certain percentage and they have higher paybacks for the more expensive tickets. In Texas, most of the $1 tickets pay $0.60 on the dollar, the $2 tickets pay $0.65, the $3 tickets pay $0.66, the $5 and $7 tickets pay $0.68, the $10 tickets pay $0.70 and the $20 tickets pay $0.75 with the exception of the Super Set For Life game which originally pays $0.68 but since the price dollars are mostly in the top prize, it's payback is pretty much all... I also live in Va and buy TN lottery tickets. Have not had any good results in TN. I've purchased $5 $20 with no luck at all.

Sometimes I wander where all of the winning tickets are distributed. Does anyone know if there is a specific plan for distributing scratch

off lottery to the stores? What areas get the winning tickets, or do you beleive they are distributed fairly?

Say for mothers day there is a mothers day ticket. The tickets comes out in April are there better chances of winning the bigger prizes closer to the holiday or it does not matter.

I am trying the method by How to win on scratchers .com where he suggests buying one ticket at a time and that isn't working so far LOL!!!! I buy the 1 dollar tickets and I haven't won anything yet, NC tickets don't pay that well at all. I am trying the positive visualization method you explained in your post earlier and I am re- reading Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. I've seen them all... The line, the black L between tickets, buying even tickets, buying the first and last ticket... I've been playing instant tickets for a while and this is what I've come up with...

I've never won on a ticket number 13. I've won the most on $20 and $10; however, was lucky enough to win $100 on a $2 ticket. Usually the last ticket is a loser. Hello2009, apparently you haven't bought tickets around here. Its a pretty regular thing for certain tickets to be sold on request and whats assumed to be the losers left for everyone else. I have noticed it from buying multiples and certain ones be gone - the rolls are broken.

Doesn't happen at just one location, but alot of them around here. Could it be, one person going around to pick them up? Or, is it the store owners? Either, likely.

I usually play $5 and $10 tickets.

I buy the last 6-8 tickets on the roll from places that insert the rolls backwards - that is, the tickets start at 029 (or 059) and count backwards to zero. One at a time, of course - no point in buying all five tickets if 005 is a winner.

If I hit something - 15 or more on a $5 ticket, or $25 or more on a $10 ticket, I quit immediately.

Working at a gas station that sells a bunch of tickets, I can tell you that 9 out of 10 times, there's a $50 winner... [ More ]

It all helps! Here's a shocker I figured out. In order to turn a profit and give away the occaisional big prize. MOST of the rolls of tickets for any game are sour , that is, no big winners. If the software or whoever distributes the rolls has determined the sour rolls go to your local store, you'll be wasting your money sadly hoping to win. But all the rolls look like they have big winners on them. They're identical . They're flashy, cleverly designed.

the best strategy for me is to buy the tickets ten at a time. so 10 $2 dollar tickets,and im out 20. The most I have won like that is just shy of $250. In NJ, the rolls of tickets go for $300. so if theres 150 in the roll, i like to buy #'s 75-85. Also, if you receive a few tickets that have , for example, ten $1 prizes, or a $2 dollar prize under the bonus bag, or a win everything symbol and you only win less then 20 dollars, the roll is sour . yes tickets must be sold in order. every ticket has its own number # so when employer gets new roll of scrach off tickets they must sell it in order. at the end of shift employer counts how many tickets were sold and must report to lottery office. employers count would be wrong if sold the last ticket the whole roll is wrong unless you buy the whole roll. its just the counting system the register would be either short money or over. i dont think anybody would sell you the middle ticket or last t... Hi, just reporting they finally gave me my check. The first time I drove 80 miles to the lottery office they wouldn't accept the receipt from the Social security office, so I had to wait another week for the actual replacement card to arrive! Well this morning I went back with the card, they gave me a $1000 check and a free coffee mug. I deposited the check in my bank.

Thanks, I guess I just didn't find the link before. Well it's late Thursday night. Would you believe I still haven't cashed my big winner? I called the lottery office and they told me I had to have proof of my social security number. I'm working for myself up here and don't have any old tax forms or anything. Of course I know my number. I'm in TN. The TN lottery website has lists of the scratchers and you can click on each one to get the odds. At the top of the page(scratchers list) there is a link that lists how many of the top 3 prizes are left. Hope that helps and I'd post a link but not sure if that's allowed. :D

You're right of course, $50 is steep. You shouldn't spend more than you can afford to lose. But they compensate on the $5o one. The odds of winning a big prize are great, and with about 1 in 3 paying off, that's good odds you'd get the fifty back or better. If you don't, well this is gambling. About 1 in three times you'd feel a small relief you didn't lose the money, slightly more often you'd be disappointed, and occaisionally you might be very pleased.

Me spend $50 on a scratchoff??? I have to admit I tried tried tried to buy the ticket. But my limited logic would not allow me to spend $50 on something I could not eat or wear. Thanks for making me laugh at myself. I have to admit that the highest I have spent on a scratchoff was $5. And I only did that once.

My scratch of choice is the scratch off called weekly grand $2 and weekly bonus $1. The grand prize for the weekly grand is $1,000 a week for 20 yrs and the grand prize for weekly bonus... [ More ]

This is off the topic we are talking about sractch offs, but I too have found winning tickets at the Track, People come there and throw away winning tickets, I have found a few like that, when they have big races, people comeout from everywhere, don't know how to play or over look there tickets. And they throw them away.

Trash Bin Man - hmm, I have been called a lot of things (some far worse)

LOL- anyway I too have found a $100 once in the trash as well as many many smaller prizes. Once found a $40 and a $10 winner in the same bin. Lotsa old ladies using magnifying glasses to barely squint at the tix. Find a store that the elderly set frequents and it could be scratch-topia. There are many things one can do to increase the odds of finding the big winners.

Hi, me again, MoneyMagic. I rememebered a trick to add. The trash bin man reminded me of it. When you find tickets people threw away, check them. One man (In Calif I think) found a discarded ticket in a supermarket parking lot. Already scratched, with a $100 dollar winner on it! Not only that, but it qualified him to be on a game show, and he got $10,000 on the gameshow.

It isn't that she wants too much money, actually other people are selling her book like on Amazon. I used to have a link to a website where you get it directly from her, her son handles the emails, and it was less than $15 with shipping. I wish I had that link but I had to reinstall windows and lost my old bookmarks.

I subscribed to a newsletter and now associates are trying to sell me an expensive course with dvds etc. I just don't need it. Helen's simple instructions work well enough.

Absolutely the most important thing is visualizing winning, in the right way, that is, really beieving it, not just seeing yourself winning in kind of a playful and doubting way, but knowing you will. We do live in a real world that obeys real physical laws, but dozens of people are winning huge scratch off prizes every day, people no more deserving than we are, so why not us?

All right! There's one I've never heard. Check the trash bin. I actually logged on because I had a good winner today, $1000 on a $20 Virginia Maximum Millions ticket. First time for that big a winner. I don't try to buy tickets constantly anymore. What has worked best for me is to take a peek into the trash receptacle both outside and inside the store. If there is an abundance of a particular type of ticket in the trash it could very well indicate that someone has done you the favor of increasing the odds that some winners are left of that kind. This has worked very well for me and just last week I hit $1000 on a $2 ticket using this strategy.

I've tried 'em all - but of course, there isn't one guaranteed tactic - unless you buy a few at a time, which improves your chances of winning, but won't guarantee it:

A new $10.00 scratcher came out in NYC last week - Money . I bought four tickets - nothing. Bought three tickets the next day - won $15.00.

Bought three of the older 'Stacks of Cash' tickets the next day - won $60.00.

Go figure.

Some stores does not allow people to buy by # unless there are not many tickets left. It is better to buy 3 or 5 tickets in a row if you can because odds of winning something improves.

Forget it, she wouldn't sell me the last ticket, said she had to sell them sequentially. So I bought one anyway. While I was talking to her the guy buying cigarettes said he used to sell tickets, and there would often be a good winner between ticket #30 and ticket #50. Another tip, or superstition

I've repeatedly heard the last ticket on a roll might be a winner. I'm really strapped for cash but yesterday I took all the non winning scratchers I had from the last three months to the store, she checked them and I had $10 I didn't realize I had. So I'm putting another ten with it, and today I'm going to buy a $20 ticket. I'm going to try buying the last ticket on the roll, if she'll pull it off for me. Before I purchase any scratch-off I always check the TX Lotto website to see if all of the grand prize tickets has been cashed in. If not then I purchase my ticket(s).
