it has happened to me but i attribute it to the randmoness of picks not the lottery sending crappy picks. when i have purchased a $5 qp one line had small balls (smth like 1 6 8 12 15 but other 4 lines were reasonable tho) but thats the way it is. we as players do have the option to make own picks so i am not complaining about that.

as far as narrowing the odds, what i beleive is that one can predict a few general trends (like predicting next draw will have all odd balls and picking all odd n... [ More ]

Regardless of the randomness of the results they only apply to the people buying tickets and the largest group of people buying tickets are favored by the results. To believe that every group, state or what ever should have the same results regardless of size or number of tickets sold doesn't make sense.

Benmas, what you said is true, but by the same token, you CAN narrow down the odds, but as I've said before a zillion times, using logic to get you 2 or 3 numbers won't do you any good, as we both have said repeatedly, you need all 6.

I AM convinced the lottery sends crappy quick-pick numbers to certain states at certain times based on IP addresses at the terminals, no matter what anyone says.

I understand your post and for the most part I think everyone try to use logic because it is fun and I do believe alot of the logic helps you pick numbers. Yes all of it is RANDOM. However IMO using logic help you pick you numbers rather than closing your eyes and choose numbers

You are exactly right: you may not be able to pick outright winning numbers, but you can eliminate some, but that goes back to the same old problem of what good is it, really, to narrow your odds from 1 in 190 MILLION to 1 in even 5 MILLION? 1 in 5 million - heck 1 in 1 million - is pretty stout odds.

For example, if a number has hit 3 times in the last 5 games, do you think it will continue to be hot? The odds say no.

Well, in a nutshell, yes.

My theory will help narrow down SOME numbers, but it will still come down to pure dumb luck to hit ALL of them.

I can't speak for others but I come to LP to see what's going on in the world of lotteries.

It's the best place on the Internet to get news of changes in the lottery business, read about big lottery winners and check the latest drawings results for all the games. I also like reading what others are posting about the games they play and what they are trying to improve their odds of winning.

Having a program that once the data is updated does the mundane task of recalculating the information you think you need to make a winning prediction will reduce 3 hours of work to seconds but once you have that information so quickly, you'll want even more thus the program will be in a constant state of change.

I need to do that for my system. I feel you on that. I need a programmer to program my stat and data once I am confident that is the only system I would use.

It takes me about 3 hours to update after a single draw but a couple more hours to read the numbers and pick out what numbers to play.

I know the feeling, I've had to reduce the games I track to just the one I play. However when I miss a couple of drawings and don't update my draw file for a while, I can enter the latest data, update all the other files using that data, be synced and ready to pick combinations for the next drawing in about 30 minutes.

Here's my problem: I work 55-60 hours a week now, am in college nearly full-time and have a wife and 2 kids.

If I miss ONE of these drawings, It's real hard to catch up and stay in sync, and it's a royal pain to do that, and if you miss multiple drawings, like if you go on a vacation for 10 days-2 weeks, it's just hard to catch up. I don't have just one spreadsheet, I have about 10 of them, and ALL of them have to be kept up. During 'finals' week I simply don't have the time.

Using a 36/5 game as an example

There is a pool size (P) = 36, and a draw size (D) = 5

The random odds of picking a number to eliminate, and having it not fall are (P-D)/P

BENMAS, Time*Treat - I know it's good stuff, but as you said, you have to play consistently and be PATIENT. I was using this theory 2-3 years ago and hit 11 pick-4's, (meaning 4x5 in PB, and forget the red ball). 5x5 paid 200,000 and I was one number away in those 11 games, meaning I HAD the 5th number in my pool in 2 of those 11 games, but I would not pay the extra couple of bucks to play THAT number. You REALLY need to go do some research before you make unfounded accusations like you did.

And when you do that - IF you do that - you will notice some things, like states' hit are hot-and-cold, PA will win a couple of times, then not hit for 3-4 years, and so on. Check it out.

Did you check USAMega results for Saturday PowerBall winners? Of the 517,720 winners 303,691 matched 0+1 for $3 and over 60,000 of those winners had powerplay, so there were plenty of $3 winners and the jackpot wasn't that high.

No, they didn't have to. Up until the PB investigation all the messages had the same numbers and that's is the reason there were so many people playing the same numbers. Afterward the company invested in a machine the printed different numbers randomly in those messages.

also, guesser, i was studying your method, and the odds substantially improve, if you consider reversals of a number, like let's say number 42-10-31-40-41, i would consider the reversal of 31 which is 13 to see if the age of number 31 have expire, ie, 13 could have hit 3 games down the road, therefore i would not choose 31 as a number because it had expired as the number 13! if i'm making any sense

guesser is right about people usually don't put emphasis on position, and that's what i'm trying to get my program to do! also, a good hint is to track numbers that follows the powerball number! like let's say 2 4 6 8 19 +31! i would go into the history and see what numbers followed that powerball number, and eliminate from those groups, to pick my favorite number! it's just a thought

For the MegaMillions game there are 175,711,536 possible combinations. How do you figure when most times less than a third that many tickets are sold for a drawing that if the game was truly random there should be 10-20 winners once in a while?

When PowerBall had a bunch of 5+0 winners a few years ago, they knew it wasn't normal and an investigation revealed many of the winners got their numbers from fortune cookies with the same message.

I don't have a theory, I was just trying to make sense of your theory. For the last drawing 155 millions combinations were sold so there were at least 20 million combinations not sold. If your theory is correct, some one decided to use a combinations that resulted in 2 players winning the jackpot and 34 other players winning $250K instead of picking one of those 20 millions combinations that no one played. Most states sell tickets up to 15 minutes before the drawing. If what you said was true then they would have to survey all the combinations sold and make a decision in less than 15 minutes however after the drawing it takes an hour or more to know if anyone played the winning combination or one of the combinations that matched enough numbers for a prize.

You also need to keep in mind the Odds:

hitting the jackpot is one in 195 MILLION.

The odds of hitting 5x5 for $200,000 is one in 5.2 Million. Based on the numbers of winners of 5x5, it seems more like one in 25 million.

Groupings:

How many numbers comprise a group, 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-59

USUALLY two numbers from one group will hit, it's less-likely you get two numbers to hit from two different groups, ie 13-15 and 36-37, so try to avoid that. It DOES happen, just not as much. Even three from one group is unlikely, but it happens, and it hit in my example above: 21-23-30 is three numbers from the 20's group.

This was a PITA when it was just 55 numbers.

Here is part of how *I* track numbers, it's all AGE based and has ZERO to do with the actual number.

(DISCLAIMER- this is all based on a ballset of 55 white balls, not the current 59 ballset)

Let's start by taking a set of numbers from the last game:

1-21-23-30-43 and PB11

If you track this (and EVERY) subsequent set of numbers chronologically, you will notice that TYPICALLY one of those five whiteballs will be hit in the next three to five games.

That leaves you with four numbers... [ More ]
