I live in a holler surrounded by mountain ridges.

I was outside and heard the sound of an aluminum ladder in the woods up one of the ridges. Through the trees I could see a tall, skinny, shabbily dressed man climbing the ladder against a tree. I couldn't see his face. He had a half drawn bow and arrow in his hand. His right leg was shaking uncontrollably as he climbed the ladder.

I knew he was going to shoot the arrow at me when he reached the top of the ladder. I didn't have my gun on me... [ More ]
