Not lotto, but I've found this is always a jinx - you're in a Vegas sports book and make a bet, football, baseball, straight up, parlay, Over / Under, doesn't matter - and just as you get your ticket printed out and are leaving the person behind you bets the other side.

It's probably a good thing you don't believe in jinxes petergrfn because things you believe in tend to manifest themselves more often.

petergrfn that's what I said in my post earlier but I use women as an example,not a good idea..I said they hem and haw about buying lottery tickets and have to dig in thier purse after about 10 minutes to decide what to buy and search for money to pay for the tickets,when I say tickets I mean on line ones and scratchoff ones..By the time she or HE has paid for the tickets the line is a mile long..

I don't exactly believe in Jinxes....If it's your time it's your time. However some things that IRK me if I'm at the store buying tickets are when the clerk bad mouths the lottery, when the clerk asks me to split the jackpot with them(esp. if they act like they won't print the ticket if I don't say yes...). I also don't like it when I'm about to buy some tickets and the person in front of me takes forever deciding which numbers to play.

I know about the clerks who get the betslips mixed up routine very well. I can deal with that OK if they are the least bit cooperative and don't get insulted when I want to hand them the playslips one at a time. But the really ignorant ones get an attitude and you can just feel the bad vibes soaking into your tickets when that happens, lol.

I don t know if it s a jinx, but the super-human multitasking thing gets old fast.

It s just another way to screw things up better than you could try to prevent.

Like the clerk who gets your betslips mixed up and can t remember which ones they ran. So now I hand them to over one at a time in a trade fashion.

For scratcher players, scratching tickets with anything but a quarter.

One of the places where we play is part of a large grocery chain. there's a guy named Larry at the service counter that knows the lotto players and takes care of them. So we call him Lucky Larry . The thing is, I don't think I've ever won more than $1 when Larry runs the tickets.

at the time is way more important than what any of us need or want or want to bother them with at the moment. That attitude needs an injection

Agreed dr65. I had that very experience in VA yesterday buying my monthly tickets.

The clerk was babbling with someone for 5 minutes while I'm waiting in line, then continues babbling with him after she rings him up and starts running my playslips. I had to interrupt their conversation in order to get her to give me the proper draws on my tickets (and she got an attitude about it, like I was being rude). She then screwed up and didn't run one of the playslips and had to go through the tickets... [ More ]

Well Coin,

Im not sure if this is jinx, but the store where I USED to get my ticket is now a place where I never get them. Why?

Because I notice for quite some time that the clerk is angry, not at me but he has that dry negative aura like he doesnt want to be there anymore. I stopped going ( even though the store hit a $65K in2007) because i didn't want him touching my ticket with his negative energy hands. besides, the address didn't add up to 8 so I stopped going.

The first jinx is when the clerk destroys your playslip when putting it into the machine.

Jamming up the machine and then says I'm sorry . Your not going to win!

The second jinx is when the clerk says Good Luck and you know by the voice,

that they don't mean it at all. Then you probably will not win, or win a small prize maybe.

I like the clerks that don't say anything other than the amount you owe them. Period.

Black cats. First i will say i am a devoted animal lover, but whenever i'm driving and a black cat crosses in front of me i feel jinxed, so then i have to try and reverse it by doing something good for 3 people. I think some people let the cats run lose on purpose just to cause other people bad luck. those people deserve a one way ticket to the tar pits.

Clowns standing in front of the convenience store I was about to purchase my lotto tickets from. Especially clowns with green hair that is a double jinx. When my wife turns on the dadgum vacuum cleaner, any and all luck that happened to be present flies out the window like a big old bird. I might as well throw my ticket money away at that point if I was on my way out to get them.

Since rdgrnr opened the thread on quirky superstitions I thought maybe one on jinxes would be interesting.

In sports betting everyone has a jinx team, a team that they can't win a bet on whether they bet on them or against them.

Do you have anything you consider to be a lotto jinx?

I'd say one is when where you play the lottery doesn't have any playskips out for the game you intend to play. I know you can just tell the clerk the numbers but from my experience that's when mistakes happen... [ More ]
