Colt45ML, though that sounds like a prudent method to redeem a big jackpot, it is probable that they (Lottery Officials) will also obligate the winner to make a public statement about their windfall. BIG MISTAKE!! Any big jackpot winner will tell you it's advisable to keep a lid on your enthusiasm, and not appear on television. Of course they'll want potential lottery patrons to see your smiling face as you collect on your good fortune, but that indiscretion will invite every scam artist and lit... [ More ]

You can even turn it in at any of about 10 or so lottery offices around the state. This is true even for the jackpot games like mega and powerball. Myself, I think I would want to claim someplace like Savannah or Columbus instead of the A-T-L.

For me, the answer is really simple. There is a regional lottery office about 10 blocks from my house. I would put the ticket in my front pocket, grab my trusty .40 cal and strap it on and more than likely walk to the office, but I could also drive if I felt the need for more security.

But then again, I could let my attorney go and claim with a blind trust and never have to leave the house.

I'd be for sure antsy, yea, but I think having spent a few days holding onto the ticket before I go and then being there for a day before I actually turn the ticket in, I think I could manage it. It's just the drive back that seems impossible to me. I hate driving back to my town from places just 1-2 hours away so the 6-7 hours from Austin to my city would be such a terrible drive and would have to get a plane ride back.

I could also just take an airplane roundtrip, leaving here really early... [ More ]

Good topic...

I've gone to the MD State Lottery central office a couple of times and seen people who have gone to collect, drag along several people with them. Those that accompany the winners can certainly give away the fact that they are with a WINNER. I guess the winners may believe there is safety in numbers, meaning having others along with them. But this gives out too much information. The Montgomery Park location has other businesses in it, but the place has a big security force around... [ More ]

If I won a jackpot that required going to the lottery office, what I'd probably do is wait a few months until after the excitement died down then go claim it. If it were the big one, I'd do the same but also hire an attorney to collect it using a trust, since that is legal in my state. If it were the big one, I'd then wait a little while longer until I quit my job, for similar reasons. Basically, if someone claims the big one and I quit my job, it will send up a red flag, and I don't want to do... [ More ]

I If that happened (and it's highly unlikely; it's a rare occasion that I buy Mega or take 5) but if it happened, I would get there quicker on the subway, yes the subway!! I would be very quiet; and I would have a driver, drive me back! NYC Trafic is not fun

If you're scared of it being a dead giveaway simply visit the Lottery offices a few weeks to a few months after you win. There are more than just jackpot winners that visit lottery headquarters every day so it wouldn't be a dead giveaway if you enter the offices. I remember from one story someone at the Lottery Offices was interviewed and they said within a few weeks time everyone who entered the doors they immediately got excited thinking maybe that person was the winner. They made it out that... [ More ]

yeah I never thought of that. I'd probably tell the cab driver to take me to an address that's about a block away from the office and then walk the rest of the way. I could just imagine what would be going through a cab driver's mind if someone asked to be driven to the lottery office.

There is a book that discusses this. I guess that is why I would talk to an attorney first. In the state where I live, a trust can claim, but the beneficiaries are mentioned as part of the right to know laws.

More than likely hire an executive car service....if i drive, and get into an accident, I could get sued, even it wasn't my fault and lose it all. If I did drive, I would leave early in the morning with a fire proof safe in the car's back seat, probably rent a car. Then I would wait... [ More ]

you just won the lotto. you have to go to the lotto office to get the winning ticket authenticated so you can collect your millions.

How would you get there? Would you drive yourself in your car or would you take a limo or taxi?

I would take a taxi. The lotto office is only about a half hour drive from my house but I'd probably be too excited or nervous to drive myself. Also my local lotto office is in a busy part of downtown and if we got into a fender bender on the way over to the office... [ More ]
