The building that the Lottery HQ is in has other companies in it. Also GA doesn't allow you to claim anonymously. If you claimed as an LLC all someone would have to do is go to the Secretary of State's website and put in the LLC name and the names, address, etc that are associated with the LLC come up.

Here in my state you can call the lottery office and they will send a car to your house with security and the whole nine yards to pick you up and drive you to turn in your ticket. You can even turn it in at any of about 10 or so lottery offices around the state. This is true even for the jackpot games like mega and powerball. The LLC doesn't necessarily have to be ran like a business. I own a LLC, it only has 1 asset and no customers. I just file the taxes. Pretty simple really. Both LLC's and Trusts have their pros and cons, I'm sure you'll make yourself aware of them if you win.

I would get on my mountain bike and blow it out all the way to the lottery office. Then I would come back home and tell my baby we have a little extra cash lets get something to eat. After dinner I would let her know that we have more than a little extra cash then head to the store and play my $5.00 pick 3 for the evening then try and catch a game on TV. It's all good and life is a dance..........

An LLC is a form of incorporating! If I already owned a business of some sort then it would be the way to go! I don't plan to operate a business, so to use an LLC to claim the jackpot is a bad idea! Good try though

For me, the answer is really simple. There is a regional lottery office about 10 blocks from my house. I would put the ticket in my front pocket, grab my trusty .40 cal and strap it on and more than likely walk to the office, but I could also drive if I felt the need for more security.

But then again, I could let my attorney go and claim with a blind trust and never have to leave the house.

After verification it is guaranteed. Lose the ticket and it's gone......

I'd be for sure antsy, yea, but I think having spent a few days holding onto the ticket before I go and then being there for a day before I actually turn the ticket in, I think I could manage it. It's just the drive back that seems impossible to me. I hate driving back to my town from places just 1-2 hours away so the 6-7 hours from Austin to my city would be such a terrible drive and would have to get a plane ride back.

I could also just take an airplane roundtrip, leaving here really early... [ More ]

I've gone to the MD State Lottery central office a couple of times and seen people who have gone to collect, drag along several people with them. Those that accompany the winners can certainly give away the fact that they are with a WINNER. I guess the winners may believe there is safety in numbers, meaning having others along with them. By using the trust I create a safety net between the millions of dollars and anyone who may think they have a right to some of that money! Anyone and everyone is going to try to get at that money (past loves, relatives you never knew you had, an old bill collector, etc.)

And yes I live in Delaware and I can remain anonymous when claiming the jackpot and that's a good thing, but claiming the jackpot in a trust is just a better move all around.

If it's a smaller prize up to a million dollars, right down I35 to the Fort Worth claim center. Over a million, then down I35 to the headquarters in Austin. Been through Austin many times but never got off the interstate. Traffic is always a mess on 35 in Austin. But I wouldn't mind on that particular trip. I would drive myself, I don't like riding when someone else is driving.

If I won a jackpot that required going to the lottery office, what I'd probably do is wait a few months until after the excitement died down then go claim it. If it were the big one, I'd do the same but also hire an attorney to collect it using a trust, since that is legal in my state. If it were the big one, I'd then wait a little while longer until I quit my job, for similar reasons. I hadn't really thought about it until a few days ago. I figured I'd just hop in my car and drive over to the office but thinking about it more, I'd be way too excited to concentrate. If you're scared of it being a dead giveaway simply visit the Lottery offices a few weeks to a few months after you win. There are more than just jackpot winners that visit lottery headquarters every day so it wouldn't be a dead giveaway if you enter the offices. I remember from one story someone at the Lottery Offices was interviewed and they said within a few weeks time everyone who entered the doors they immediately got excited thinking maybe that person was the winner. There is a book that discusses this. I guess that is why I would talk to an attorney first. In the state where I live, a trust can claim, but the beneficiaries are mentioned as part of the right to know laws.
