What I would do is this, whenever I had winning tickets, then I would cash them in at this store with the judgemental store clerks, and if I was inclined to buy tickets there at the time, maybe. But whenever I didn't have winning tickets to cash in, go but them somewhere else.

if youre not comfortable, buy somewhere else. or complain to the manager and see if anything changes.

my little store has a whole 3 employees, including the owner. i always tell them to sell me a winning ticket. they dont listen much. but one day they will :P

Some good news! I found a place a block away from my house that not only has the vending machines for when I want to buy scratch offs, but a clerk that looked like was having the time of his life scanning people's tickets. He was singing to that little fanfare that plays when you scan a winning ticket. Maybe I just caught him on a good day, this was my first time in there, but I might stick with this place! I agree, I try to buy from liquor stores cuz let's face it, liquor stores make people happy.

I can only do that in Virginia though.

Tennessee won't allow liquor stores to sell lottery tickets because it will set in motion the chain of events that will bring about the Apocalypse.

That's what the Governor said anyway.

If you decide to come forward with some sort of story when you hit the big one, make sure you give a shout out to all the judgemental store clerks. lol And instead of giving them any of your money, have a pizza sent to the store on a friday telling them thanks. And never go in there again.

Ha, I had said the same thing.

I would love to win the lottery from tickets bought at the store I frequent most because I'd like to see them benefit. Of course, that's if the owner decides to give some to them, if they don't and it's something like the PB tonight with a high jackpot I'd pass along some to the person who sold the ticket to me (and another that has sold me the majority of my tickets if they weren't the one working that day I came in to buy).

I'm 24. It's funny...I rarely get carded for alcohol, but the last 10 or so times I've bought lottery tickets, I've been asked for ID. Maybe I should take it as a compliment? Haha

But yeah...as much as I'd like to stand my ground and continue buying my tickets wherever I want, at the same time I don't want that store to see a DIME if I'm lucky enough to win

I buy my tickets at the place I want to see get blessed....

I used to go to a 7/11 store and buy my $1 tickets for the state/multi-state games until one day, the clerk got an attitude with me.....he wanted to know why I only play $1....why don't I buy more!

I totally ignored him and never went back......

Since I know that retailers get a cut for selling the winning jackpot ticket....I want it to go to a place that I like and the customer service is satisfactory.

I've noticed most clerks are numb skulls operating a lottery machine,(but to them its like riding a bike for the first time or driving a car for the first time,.........all those buttons.lol).Then again there's some clerks that are awesome and no need to walk them threw the operation of a lotto machine.

The best thing I suggest ,.......when you win slide the clerk sum cash.The clerks will be tripping over each other to help you out in a friendly manner.Pass it forward

Owners of these marts rely on the lottery to increase traffic so the customers spend money on other wares with better profit margins. I believe (not 100%) that the store earns 5 cents for every dollar spent on the lotto, at least for MM and PB. Maybe the owners are giving you dirty looks because you don't purchase other things from the store, like food and tobacco. You have the right to do what you want and if the stupid clerk doesn't like it - definitely find another store.

I would BUY from the other stores and then take ANY winners in to this Jerk of a Clerk to cash them in - THEN tell him that you don't buy any from HISstore as you NEVER win from his store -then I would say things when cashing in like - man this is the 5th hit this week! i was in a small town for a short while. they only had 1 lotto retailer, and they made it sound like such a chore selling lotto tickets.

they even had a sign saying please dont scratch tickets instore because they didnt like vacuming up the rubber.

well after a few visits, i decided i would take my business to the next major town, 100 km away, when we did thew weekly shopping.

Its unfortunate but their 'system' does work, as I have fallen victem couple times before where the hawk grabbed a $50 or $100 winner.

A good thing to do is check the waste basket. if you see a bunch of simultaneous tickets where only the code has been scratched then you know a hawk has been there and cleared out all the winners. time to switch stores then

If I were you I'd consider going to a different store. Think about if you won a major jackpot, do you want that store with the rude employees to get their big payout or one that actually wants your business and treats you well?

Judgemental clerks dont bother me,its the ones who ask what your number is 5or6times,or say the machines down cause they dont know how to run it,or the ones that think they know,but give you the wrong #s or the wrong type bet.Have run into honest clerks who send you to another register with a clerk who does,or one who make an attempt to learn,as it is part of thier job,usualy you get to know your locale clerks that are good and it also helps if you tip them if you hit,this keeps you in good with... I've gotten weird looks from a few but it's only because I look really young. After the first time they've ID'd me and seen I'm more than old enough to buy tickets I've never been looked at oddly again.

I also have the same 6-8 clerks sell to me every time (at 2-3 different stores) now so if anything I get friendly looks when I come in.

And I did have a new clerk look at me weirdly today but didn't ask for ID, I think it was because I had just got done running so I was winded and sweaty so... [ More ]

I don't know, but is it possible some franchise owners are not given a choice about whether or not they can have lottery machines? Maybe some think gambling is bad and don't want anything to do with it and do what they can to discourage people with dirty looks etc? Maybe some just don't want to be bothered with it. but i know for a fact kroger gives their mm/pb small winnings for selling the big jackpot winner to local charity's

if the beeps want to give you looks, play at a grocery store you know for a fact will give away the winnings,f that store owner getting money off your luck if the workers give you looks

The town where we live has a no booze policy for the grocery stores so the liquor stores have a monopoly.

There's one liquor store that we go to that sells tickets but makes it obvious they want no part of it. They keep the playslips hidden behind liquor advertisements and brochures.

We rarely play lotto there.

I don't spend that much per day...maybe $40 or so in one day every other week. I'm a freelancer so my paycheck isn't steady. I only play when I have the cash to spare. So I'm not even in there that much and they still glare! lol

Don't back down... look them dead in the eye until they turn away. If they take too long to turn away, raise them an eyebrow as if to say yes? you want to say something? Don't let them judge you and run you off. If you want to play at that store, by all means, play at that store.

Even though that particular store is convenient go play somewhere else. It doesn't matter what those store clerks think, once you can feel that kind of negative energy it won't do you any good to play there. Besides they probably wish they could buy however many numbers/tickets/games you're buying. I used to live in NY and know that its not hard to find another store, especially in the city and outer boroughs, so hopefully there's another one nearby. Good luck.

They do have the machines where I am and I use them, but they're right by the registers so I still get the dirty looks. I try not to let it bother me but I feel like they think I'm a gambling addict or something (does spending $30-40 every couple of weeks when you have spare cash floating around make you an addict??).

Does anyone else deal with store clerks who look at you like a criminal when you play the lottery at their store? There's a place I go often both to buy scratch offs and play my numbers. It's conveniently near my work and in a super busy part of town so I should be invisible, but every time the clerks there seem to remember me and they all look at me funny! Maybe it's because of my age (most people buying lotto tickets in there are 35+), but still it's starting to get uncomfortable.
