I haven't seen the documentary, but I can't say I'd judge any of their old friends too harshly. I think most everyone would feel jealous, and maybe even angry after a while, if their friend won the lottery. Look at all the responses the articles on the winners get - always some jealousy and judgement about whether total strangers 'deserved' to win.

It would be sad to lose my friends (esp. since you could never be sure whether any new friends like you for you or your money), but, to be honest,... [ More ]

Quan Dao is for me the perfect lottery winner. He took his money and instead of flaunting or flushing it he invested in his family's future.

Janem,

In all the lottery shows I've seen that's first time someone has admitted to resenting their friend's good fortune. It's repugnant, but honest. They did the right thing by moving away from all those people. Sadly, we all have people like that in our lives, whether we know it or not.
