Jack, i kinda understand where youre coming from with the collective pool example youre discussing however the first hint of this leads many posters to believe that there is somhow something illegal going on whether there is or not.

thats kind of how my syndicates run now, i have a family one and a pals one. i no longer run the pals one.

and only 3 of us remain in it, but the family one i run with 5 of us and one interstate.

sure its different with good friends or family, we send money via electronic banking, and the pool manager goes and buys tickets. trust in such cases is pretty strong with life long contacts. and the laws aint so tough here in Australia, although no state sells tickets out of its jurisdiction... Anyways, I agree it is risky to give money to some bulter services who might run off with your money or playing in pool where you don't know anyone. What I was suggesting a online pool with friends you know personally. Pool the money each week and assign it to one of the friends to buy the ticket. Just like you would do it in office lottery pool. Todd, I have done enough research online and online websites such as lottogopher, winatrillion, freelotto, congolotto are the proofs that there is place for online lottery to exists.

Also, US Justice department recently announced that Wire act only applies to sports wagering, so they have cleared a way for states to sell their lotteries online. NY state has been wanting to persue that from last 2 years.

Well I don't want to argue but a online group is not technically Selling lottery tickets, so you are not buying the tickets online. Lottery tickets are still bought offline by someone walking into the store. That is why these so called butler services (lottogopher, winatrillion) have been operating for last few years. Only problem comes when they try to claim the prize on behalf of the user.

Coin Toss, who signs the ticket as of today if group of 20+ players win the jackpot. I would think that they form a trust after they win the lotto. Why can't a group made of people across the country form a trust after they win. Then take the winning as payments from the trust based on how much shared each person had.

That is the whole point to play with people you know. So maybe a group of your facebook friends. On average a person has around 130 friends in their friends list.

This will allow even people who are out of states but know you to play in your group.

A group of people that I mostly associated with online, but we also met and knew each other in real life? Maybe.

(I have 2 forums I've belonged to for years - one for alumni of my university and one is a mom's group. Even though I initially met most of those people online, I might feel like I knew them well enough to chip in a couple of dollars towards a pool.
