Basically you got took for 2 bucks... at least she didn't buy crack with it. Once you hand off money to someone like that you have no idea what they'll do with it. Here in Baltimore city some people are making like $250 a day panhandling.

Even though I usually feel guilty for not giving, I don't give because my sister in law saw a guy she had given money to before end his day by getting into a fairly new mercedes and driving off. Plus the stories about how much some of these people make angers me. I give to meals on wheels and food banks.

That pulls at your nerves for sure...I always wondered about karma. When I do something that is thought of as good like give someone a couple bucks, Afterward I too have a thought of this will be good for my karma...But does thinking that nullify the good deed? I sometimes get a quick guilty feeling for having that thought even though doing something good like that comes natural.

Some could be angels unawares but some definitely aren't.

When I worked in Vegas we had this flea (lowest bet player, at the time 25 cents) who hung around the crap tables waiting for aa touris to make a score.

Well, one day that's exactly what was happening and this one guy was geting paid $250 to $350 every roll of the dice ( he had all the numbers placed, had pressed them up, and the shooter was rolling a monster.

One of those hidden camera shows did an episode where they set up 3 diff people in 3 diff locations to show how much could be collected in a day. Some regular panhandlers were making a nice living off of it.

That is why when someone asks me for money for food, I say Do you really want some food? And if they say yes then I go Ok let's go inside and I ll buy you a sandwich or something. Now if they go along then they really were hungry and in need of food. But if they resist (like MOST do) that means they just want to money for other things....usually drugs. So it only cost you $2 to learn what other people still haven't learned after giving $100s to so-called charities good-causes; many of those organizations support activities that donors would be totally at odds with.

You have no control (and usually no knowledge) of what is done with the money once it leaves your hand.

If people only knew where some of their scout-cookie money was going ...

These stories are exactly why I give to organized charities like our local soup kitchen, giving to someone who claims to NEED food, that actually doesn't...those days are over. We have a guy who rides a 3 wheeled bike that panhandles all the time.....my neighbor who is a rural carrier for the post office, told me that this guy retired from the P.O. about 15 years ago and chooses to live that lifestyle. They had a retirement party for the guy, gave him gifts, etc etc. Not to say he couldn't have... [ More ]

I've never felt guilty about having extra money to spend of lottery tickets or anything else and I won't feel guilty if I ever win a lottery jackpot, so beggars and do-gooders who try to get money by pulling a guilt trip on me are wasting their time.

Well I had something similar happen to me. My wife and I were leaving walmart and

there was a guy who looked homeless with a sign saying need food. She told me we

should give him a few bucks so we pulled up and gave him 3 dollars and he said GOD

bless you. About 2 days later we are out of milk so I am back at walmart and there he

was at the end of his shift getting on a brand new moped and driving off. A week after
