Seriously though, I find her method a little odd to apply to lotto.

Let's say the choices are A, B, C, D, E.

Of five chiuces one has to be right so it's a 4 to 1 shot.

In lotto we're definitley not talking only five choices.

Just my $.02 here, but regardless of the method of number selection, be it QPs or birthdays, numbers appearing in dreams, or even getting a dircet mes... [ More ]

My ex, who teaches high school algebra, geometry, and advanced mathematics, tells her students the same thing. And she is no slouch. She's taught on three continents, been teacher of the year, and conference spokesperson on the national level for those God-awful high school exit exams.

She may not be Mother Teresa, but she is one of more brilliant people I've ever known.

Your teacher friend is absolutely correct. The fact that she is talking about multiple choice tests clouds the reality.

Let's clarify it by using a true/false test.

If you knew none of the answers you could guess T or F for each question and conceivably guess all of them wrong. However, if one systematicallyanswers all T or all F they are guaranteed a certain number will be correct.

Personally I would advise leaving them blank if they absolutely had no idea which were the best answers rather than marking anything and hoping to get lucky. Similar tests used by industry and others are more sophisticated and marking the wrong answers can some time reduce the credit you get for the answers you marked correctly.

I have a friend who is a teacher who doesn't play the lottery much, but when she does, she plays the same numbers. What is interesting was her outlook pertaining to this.
