Correct RJOh,

Another example is the Win 4 Life game. Odds of matching 4 of 6 = 1 : 555.11

This is a 6/42 game with a Free Ball. I do not take into the account the Free Ball, just the basic 6 numbers.

Number of drawings from 03/01/06 thru 01/16/13 is 720 drawings.

Number of drawings matching 4 of 6 of the same numbers, hitting more than once is 545 or 75.69% of the 720 total drawings. I was able to put these 545 drawings into 171 Groups of related combinations.

Indeed. When I play Powerball or Florida Loto (I'm starting to play the Loto 6 here in Japan) I never think bout the real odds. Sometimes they may be there...but generally I go in with thinking simply Its either I win something(big amounts such as second or Jackpot..some games like PB, 3'rd prize would suffice) or I don't. So its 50/50. lol

I try not to pay attention to the odds when playing the lottery. Mentally, I try to psych myself into thinking the only odds I have are me against the lottery machine....If I paid attention to the odds, I'd probably never play

Odds and chances is the same.

If you throw a dice and you are looking for the probability of throwing a 4 or 5 or 6, you get 3 in 6.

p(4|5|6) = 0.5 or 1:2, but it truly is 3:6 in one roll.

You have odds for outcome, and you might calculate odds of winning a certain amount of money.

Winning a certain amount of money is an estimation because the payout can vary and there are taxes.

I think butch2030 was trying to explain odds and chances aren't the same things. For example in 6 of 49 game your odds of matching 3 are 1:57 but your overall chances of matching 3 or better are 1:54, so your chances of matching 3 are better than your odds of matching 3.

You can test this by comparing the winning drawing with the previous 54 drawings of any 6/49 games for 10 drawings or more and you will average a match 3 or better the same number of times or more.

Keep in mind that there have only been 1,048 drawings in the time frame mentioned (1,048 vs the odds s/b 1,032). The point I was trying to bring out here is that the odds of hitting 4 of 6 numbers is 1 : 1,032. Instead of 1,032 drawings, I have 1,048 drawings in which I have 232 Groups that contain 646 drawings of the total of 1,048. To be part of the critiera of the 646 drawings you must match 4 of 6 of the same numbers more than once in the data base of all the drawings. It's like saying inste... [ More ]

I was wrong with the 5 of 6 in a 49 ball game, instead of 1,906,884, it should have been 54,201.

I tried two different calculators on the net they show the odds of winning 5 of 5 in a 49 ball game as 1 : 1,906,884.
