Ill walk right into his/her office and make outragous demands like becoming co owners. Remind him to think wisely as im now uber wealthy with the resources to set up across the street with my know how and new money lol..unless i work for GE or Google then ill just quit. Dont think the bosses will be able to handle me coming to work in a different ferrari each day.

Nahhh...just say you have reached a point in your life where you want a break and/or want to explore a hobby or personal interest. If you give 2 weeks notice and they let you go before then, even better. You were professional and met your obligations.

Alot of people say they will give a two weeks notice because their place of work has been good to them. This would seem that there is some level of loyalty.

The money does not magically appear in your hand instantly. Arizona rules give them up to 15 business days to pay (3 weeks). They only pay by check, no direct deposit. Then there's a hold on the check by the bank.

Quitting your job before the money is fully available to you does not seem like a good idea. What if someone comes up with a competing claim to the ticket and it gets tied up in court for months or years

While I'm not in a life saving occupation, I am in a peripheral-ish job where a lot of people's treatment could be delayed if there's an 'abrupt transition' (definitely my favorite corporatism for someone just walking out). I'm also lucky enough to have a good team with a good supervisor and the head of our department is amazing, so I'd want to do right by everyone else.

All the bosses in our office are in the pool, too. They're usually the first ones asking who's managing the JP (heaven forbid they would take charge) and they are the ones who said we'd do a conference call to corp. There's probably 27 of us that work out of our office, about 8 of those consistantly work from home more often than not. We'd not leave them in too much of a lurch, as we are the NA headquarters (billing, accounting, tax, finance, IT, HR) for about 500 advisors out of 900+ worldwide.... [ More ]

Many people sign employment agreements for jobs that require 2 week notice and if you don't give it, they can keep your vacation pay, etc. I'd rather donate that money to someone even if I won millions. Also, if you are licensed in your profession, less than 2 weeks notice could be a black mark on your record (even if you plan to go on inactive status for your profession).

After a week people got so comfortable talking about it that I got questions like who i got financed through, how much was the house, how much downpayment did they ask, and if i got a specialized loan

Tell them you have always wanted to start your own company - and you feel now is the time! Just make sure you tell them it's a non-competing company, so they don't try to sue you!

Technically, you will be starting a new company - an LLC! And you'll be investing your money, so you aren't lying.

Just make sure you have your story down pat so you don't act funny . Also, you want it to ring true enough so they aren't wondering if you are the local lottery winner.

Then I have a good question for you, What would you tell your boss the reasoning for your decision to quit? My boss and co-workers would definitely want to know why i was quiting. I have been a faithfuly employee and I love what I do, I even told everyone I would love to retire here. Asking for a 2 week would be shocking and avoiding the question would make for some akward situations.

You would give your 2 weeks before the money is in the bank???? At this point all you have is a piece of paper, not millions in the bank.

A one week's notice is the norm now. Some companies don't want you hanging around for two weeks after notice, especially if your job is easily transitioned and any idiot can do it and there's 3000 who are willing to do you job for less money and benefits. I'm self-employed but if I did work for a company, that's how I would feel. Number one I would have absolutely no motivation to work for them anymore so I'd be useless anyway. Number two, after winning a big jackpot there's a lot of financial, tax and personal stuff to take care of immediately, so work would get in the way of that.

If a company decides to let you go, they won't extend YOU the same courtesy.

The 2 weeks notice is overvalued by employees. It's either not enough time, or too much time and you're just a lame duck the last week. No matter how important you think you are, guess what, you can be replaced. The main thing is to leave on good terms, the time is not as important.

When they find someone better to replace YOU due to skills, age, cutbacks...etc, will they give you 2 weeks notice?

I'd think about it this way, unless you have an outstanding place in the company where they need you more than you need

them and it would put them at a very big disadvantage having you quit immediately and you've been there for years, I

wouldn't have a problem saying:

I won't be in tomorrow...or I quit, effective NOW.

You don't claim, and then give a 2 week notice. You give notice, you don't owe anyone a reason, make something up if you feel the need - relocating to be with elderly parents, retiring, etc.

I'd give notice so I could train someone in the basics, but use up my PTO before notice was done. Item 1 - No problem, have a guard they can't get past.

Item 2 - Co-workers might be a BIT of a problem but not too bad.

Item 3 - We are so short staffed (yet the company I work for makes HUNDREDS of millions each quarter in PROFIT!) they would take ANY time I would give them before leaving! In fact they would ask me to stay longer - 'can you stay till we can get a replacement and get them trained?' which could take 3-4 months--- NOT! 2 weeks and I would be FREE
