I actually prefer the self service machines now. I just want to avoid the clerks as much as possible. I guess I just have been looking at their ugly mugs for so long. (and i suppose vice versa).

I just have to make sure all my money is in order, as the self serve machines dont give change. But they quietly suggest for you to put in a 100 dollar bill.

I mean what kind of mad better is going to drop a 100 into one of those?

I suppose it depends on the clerk.

Once I give a clerk a tip.

I knew it was the wrong choice IMMEDIATELY. Was the wrong clerk too.

This clerk who said she got a tip, could have also been lying. A good sales clerk usually has a nice reportoire of quick lies, to try to suade you.

Generally I dont tip. Unless I get some extra service, such as, they let me in the store when its closed to other people, or they let my call in my bets over the phone. In those situations I am more prone to

We should be able to play all lottery games online, so we do not have to deal with lottery retailers. I will never tip a store clerk that sold me a winning lottery ticket. I respect anybody decision who wants to tip.

Yes they are sell anything else the store has to sell I see this as no different from selling me a bag of popcorn or a carton of milk etc.

I wouldn't dream of tipping a clerk after I bought a cart full of groceries or in a dept. store where I bought a dress etc...don't see any difference but to each his own...those that want to go for it...I just don't see it myself.

Another poster was talking about the store receiving money on a big hit...thats true and that money actually comes out of your winnings...

At my favorite restraunt I always tip 50% as I sit at the counter, to me its entertainment and they know what I want just seeing my face, they know my car and my drink is waiting for me when I come in and sit down. And I like most of them....... haha. Servers are undepaid and most patrons are skin flints when it comes to tipping....

I don't play like that all the time. I used to get a book every two weeks named Lotto Stats , they would list the longest numbers and pairs . they would list them how many days they were out . I then would look at a list to see when was a number I like came out Then I would press the number sometimes 20 on a number . I did make a lot of money in Ny , but not her in Nc . Nc numbers sk. I can't get a handle on them , they are all over the place.

over a $1,000 winner at a Turkey Hill. I'm smart, I wish they'd get some smarts...or at least remember who they have

to ask: How much is it? while turning more than a few heads and who they don't have to ask. The way they drop money

at those places, you're lucky if they have $10 to pay out. I'll buy at those places but cash at a store or supermarket.

I agree. I always take anything over $40 to Wegmans. They always have the cash and the clerks are very discreet. When I take a smaller win to a 7-11 type store the clerk will usually say loudly when I hand her the ticket, it's not a big win is it? Gee...thanks for telling any potential thiefs that I have cash available for robbing in the parking lot.

I agree with this statement but I'd rather give to the person on the street who looks hungry, cold, worn out or down and out.

The clerk has a job. It is their job to sell tickets just like it is to stock shelves and sell/ring up/package other items.

The down and out on the street needs the basics, the clerk probably has the basics plus a whole lot more...car/house/apartment/

tv/food/warmth/hope..and a paycheck the next week.

I sometimes tip them without winning. I say please when I ask for a ticket, I say thank you when I get my tickets, and I give them a buck or 2 every so often. They deserve better. And I try and know them by name and mention their name. I respect GOOD working people.

Your favorite store does not make very much money if you do not win anything. The commision is about 5%, so a nickel on an MM ticket and a dime on a PB ticket. If you pay by debit card, they make even less because they have to pay discount and transaction fees to their card processor.

Bottom line is they make a lot more on snacks and beverages than on selling tickets to people who never won anything.

I agree there's no wrong answer, people can choose what they want to do, based on their feelings and relationship with the clerk.

But I would not.

And store clerks are not the same as dealers in a casino or waiters at a restaurant. They are not tipped employees with a low minimum wage (or less) pay with the expectation of tips. They are a cashier. They get paid to be a cashier and watch the store. That's it. Tips should not be expected.

When it comes to lotteries and the numbers I play, I don't hang with anyone. I don't want anyone mistakenly expecting a share of anything I win. I don't go for the gang mentality when it comes to my money.

There is no right or wrong answer here. Clerks are no different than card dealers at a casino. They dont provide you with any extra odds but they are providing you a service. I hate the self service lottery stations so i appreciate the clerks. Tipping comes from the heart

While it is nice that many here would tip the clerk if they won but have you ever thought about someone who has religiously wagered a large amount of money at their favorite store and never won anything? do you think the store owner should give him/her anything for trying

at the store me and my friends hang we tip the clerk if we hit 250 or more $10 to $20 each person.

its just something we do like on night one of us hie 1790 he gave everyone $15 it was 6of us, then another time i hit 250 i gave everyone $10 it was 5 of us . its just something we do because the clerk is like on of are friends.

No I don't think you should tip. You picked the numbers, you pay for the numbers and win or lose it was your money

Honeybearcake you must really have a good heart because $40 is not much...but if it makes you feel better then guess it's worth it for you.

Actually I bought some lunch one time for a homeless man who was outside of the Sheetz store with some of what I won for that day so that made me feel good too...should do that more often...rather do that than tip the clerk.

Anyway...the clerk I was talking about earlier...when I bought my tickets from her last night I asked her how much did the person win who gave her the $100 she told me he won $5000

Well, I tip when I lived in Ny , had some big hits I always gone to the same store . One time I hit for 6 thousand on different tickets non a number , the owner went in the back of the store and gave me the money . I did't have to keep going back to collect 500 on one ticket . I have gave him 100 .OO . If I won 500 , I would give 20.00 , 0n 250.oo 20 dollars I gave him. Anything over 1 thousand I always gave 100.oo.

I probably would give a small tip. At the store I buy most tickets, the clerk usually asks about my girlfriend's kids. I'll give him a tip if I felt I've own enough to do so.

Even if they do give someone a tip, how many times have they given tips that led to no winnings? I bet they didn't give the person any money for the bad tip.

I would tip the clerk depending only on who the clerk was. I go to the same store a lot so see the same clerks over and over. If I hit the jackpot I would tip them a good amount, but if it was anyone else then no.

If l am buying tickets at a store- the last thing l want to hear from the Clerk is Tip Talk . Let's ponder on this for a sec, if one ate in a fine restaurant and depending on how good the service was, some people would start tipping at 15%. If one won $1,000,000 and the 15% tip factor kicked in, there is no way l would tip the clerk $150,000.

I've never won a jackpot but if I did I wouldn't tip anyone. The stores where I buy my tickets have different clerks all of which I've had dealings with so unless I had a special relationship with one I would have no reason to tip any of them.

What others decide to do don't concern me.

I don't cash mine at that store I was speaking about either because when I tried to one or 2 times I was told they didn't have the money...they don't mind selling me the tickets or scratch cards but never have the money to cash them with.

The store gets paid just for selling the ticket, not including the bonuses they get when they sell jackpot winning tickets. The clerk may not see that money directly, but it goes towards their wages. It's not like they're in the service industry.

I never tell a clerk how much I've won, and I usually never cash tickets at the same store where I've purchased them.

Personally, I would never tip a clerk. To each their own, I guess.

I was in a store the other day the clerk told me someone gave her $100 of a win they got...she didn't say how much they won I didn't ask but here's my feeling about it. She said she had gotten tips before also. I told her I thought she could buy her own tickets like I have to do.
