The HOA fees are pricey for that area but they offered many perks including unlimited golf and a private ocean front beach club. We had purchased a lot and built a spec home which we sold back in 2006.

Many private communities do not allow overnight parking on the road and some even disallow parking in their own driveway. I think that's going a bit overboard.

Most of these private communities maintain their own roads so they often do prevent police officers from entering unless they have a valid reason or proof of call as you had stated.

It's funny that you mentioned the Plantation at PV as I l love that community! my husband and I got a tour of the neighborhood and clubhouse with the sales rep. We couldn't get access inside which is why we had to resort to using the sales associate for the community .

The home prices were a little more reasonable for a private community but the HOA fees are insane! You have to join the golf club if you purchase property whether you golf or not and the dues were almost $900 a month

Talking about Epping Forest. This is what I have heard from a spouse of a police officer. Maybe they do let guests come in, but they don't let them park in the road. But if they don't let police officers in without proof of a call, then I can see them also not letting guests drive in. Oh well.

Lol! My husband loves firearms of all types but I am biased towards my trusty Glock. I was at the range a few years ago and test fired a Desert Eagle 50...even with both hands the recoil was more than this 120 lb. mom felt comfortable with.

We used to have an investment property at the Plantation in PV and they were pretty strict about letting visitors/guest inside the gates. I think the neighborhood you mention not allowing guests is over the top. Typically, residents in private communities contact the entry gate and gives the guard a list of guest coming to visit in order to avoid a fiasco.

I would have my own place of business and just kick it there from time to time. I'll own a restaurant and just go there and work somedays. I really like the cool boss aspect, I want to do that. I would also love to become an assistant coach at my old school. No time for that now, but with that kind of money, you have time to do whatever you want without a care in the world.

There is at least 1 gated community where I live, one way in, one way out. Even guests can not drive into the community, they have to park out on the main road and when somebody is hosting a party, there are some pretty nice cars parked on the side of the road. Police officers can not go in there unless there is a call for service.

I beg to differ with your assumption. We currently live in a gated community but only one of the entrances has a guard. The other entrance is access card or bar code activated so many people are able to sneak in. This is by no means a high end neighborhood as most of the homes range in value from 500k to the 1.5 million.

If I was fortunate enough to win a Mega million or Powerball jackpot then an exclusive guard gate community with multi-million dollar homes would be my preference for a place... [ More ]

Relocating my husband and son into a short term rental in a different state is a priority. We would have a close friend occupy our current house while facilitating with the movers to put our belongings in storage prior to placing it on the market.

We would:

Organize a financial game plan with our advisers and attorney.

Spend a month or two visiting many communities in order to find a new area to lay our roots

Purchase a home in an exclusive guard gated community.

I think I'd want to have a few hobbies just to change things up a bit.

I would get back into playing tennis. I would like to learn curling (looked fun at the Olympics). While I'd have a landscaper I'd still want my own vegtable garden.

I'd definitely travel, but I can be a bit of a home-body too, so I'd likely keep it to one big trip a year.
