That's an understatement!

Mary had no idea of how much they won and not only forgot the winning tickets, forgets to buy the PB tickets too. Bill seems to be the smart one, although giving Mary $20 with her track record wasn't very smart either. The story said the MM tickets were worth $6 and Bill gave Mary $20 and said This should cover it. Use this.

It could be worse; Bill could have given Mary $100.

No one knew the exact number of Mega wins in the parking lot. Bill did a nice favor. But, he should get an equal share and his $20 back. They might also want to consider using the remaining $6, and buy $6 worth of MM. Perhaps, they might win for the second time.

Bill is entitled to his $20 back along with the gratitude of all his coworkers regardless of what they win. If they win nothing Mary could be stuck for the extra $14 Bill is entitled unless her coworkers are willing to contribute the extra bucks.

Bill gave her money knowing she was purchasing money for a group. He is entitled to an equal share and no more. It is not an issue of the right thing to do but more likely what a court would do based on the law and equities.

She brings the tickets the next day and they see that they won a few dollars on the mega ball. They decide to use the winnings to buy powerball tickets for that night.
