I may be wrong but there are only about 815 members (720 Platinum and 95 Gold) who currently pay a subscription. That's between $4,600-$6,200 per month....nothing to scoff at of course but considering how much work a large forum requires (I've been there), it isn't like winning the lottery. Obviously this doesn't include Standard members who may subscribe once or every now and then, or Guests (banned) users who used to pay. Who ever thought lotterypost would have 157,000 members. Of which I'd say 3% maybe paying $7.99 a month. That's 4710 members paying $7.99 that's $37,632 a month. Even at 1% of paying members thats

1570 paying $7.99 is $12,544 a month... Plus all the other income the site brings in...

Just sayin it doesn't seem worth it to me. All the lawyers,all the red tape etc etc. And as far as my newsletter,I'm very realistic. I know I probably wouldn't make a dime on it. It would be more of a service to players. Anything lottery related , (unless you really know what you're doing and have the budget for advertisement) is not going to make you rich.

I suggest you pay a visit to http://www.lotto-logix.com/games.html and look over each of the free lotto games that currently exist. Their numbers have fallen like the number of independent search engines have, the shake out has left the strongest I hope. Anyway read their rules, make copies, most are not legal in Florida, New York and some other places that have laws requiring a bond to guarantee prizes, etc.

Yeah, the reason a sweepstakes has prizes set in stone is so that sponsors can't advertise prizes and then change their mind later. You can imagine how much publicity/advertisement value a company could get by offering $1 million no purchase necessary etc etc. Dates are set in stone so that the sponsor can't run around their obligation to pay the prize by extending the deadline etc.

This one gets me right here ... a contest in which participation is conditioned on payment of value and in which prizes are awarded primarily by chance is a lottery rather than a contest.

Since payment of value is not a condition im assuming that takes that element out of the lottery. So with that being said it would be a contest (or possibly a sweepstakes)

This has been tried before. It used advertising revenues to generate funds. You had to view ads before or while playing. It didn't work out because not enough money was raised through ad clicks. It was free money wise, but not free time wise...

If you google I want to start my own lottery there is plenty of information out there. I don't see how this could be any different then playing the lottery online and that,as we know,is illegal. From what I've read it sounds like it would be very difficult to get licenses and such because the real lotteries are all government run and they wouldn't want the competition. Sounds like the well known pyramid scheme which is illegal from start to the end. The concept is basically, each participant will pay once a membership and will be allowed to play for free and win small amounts if he introduces more people to that scheme (with diminished payouts every time). A pending patent means that I was the first to file. That means that if someone else tries copying what im doing, they can be held liable.

Every patent you see is an idea. There are some things you cant patent, but my idea would fall under a process. Its similar to someone vulcanizing rubber. You can patent the process that is used to vulcanize rubber the same way you would patent the steps involved to make a free lottery work.

I cant sell any tickets legally so that is out of the way. Its a free lottery. If they win they win.

Also the number that you see is what you win is what it is. The number automatically updates so it is progressive. If you started playing at 1pm the jackpot would be higher at 6pm as long as nobody won a small prize or the large prize.

I'm curious about your patent. A relative of mine has a patent pending and that really doesn't mean a thing. Just that the board is looking it over,not that it's actually been approved. And it takes around 3 years now for that to happen. First they told him 2, but now it's turned into 3. Just tells you how many people out there have patents pending .

My bad :) I was saying that I was waiting for the patent to be approved before contacting an investor. It has been approved so now I can approach investors a little more openly, and yes it is pending. After I release a minimum viable product I will shell out the rest of the cash to get the non provisional. I will have to talk to my developer but he said a matching whole number is possible. I didnt bring up the idea of lower prize numbers but i certainly like the idea. I dont see it being a problem either. The code would look something like (Random.Range(min, max) == wantedNumber) and i think from there you can choose the wanted numbers so 6 out of 7 numbers could execute a line of code that would trigger a small win, and 7 out of 7 would trigger a large win.

The payment would still be the same. I was basically saying I cant collect any type of contact or billing information from someone 13 or younger. The contact or billing information is strictly for sending payment as well. If you just wanted 700$ sent directly to your paypal email you would just put that in, and that would be the end of it.

If you are curious COPA is the child online protection act which is why there is the 13 and younger age limit.

Winning numbers are based on what the random number generator generates. So there would be a set number, and the generator would have to match that number. All done electronically. The code in the program decides who wins by whoever matches. A human cannot choose the winner.

No its a mutual relationship. I get payed a little and the users get payed when they win. I am in the process of finding investors as well. I was waiting for my patent to be cleared before contacting anyone.

I have looked at lottery law, and its more close to a sweepstakes than a lottery, and I dont think it falls into sweepstake law either. I will consult an attorney on this as well.

If you played and the jackpot said 5k you would take 5k. After taxes im not sure. I would write a check for 5k and then that 5k would then be taxed by prize tax laws. I still need to contact an attorney but whatever the jackpot says is whatever you win minus your local governments or federal governments take. It would be similar to having a salary of 60k and then getting taxed when you file your taxes i believe.

Nope no ugly catches unless a few seconds per play is too taxing. One of my biggest challenges is making the game fun, and the marketing. The free part is only a problem for me since it will come out of pocket to develop, unless I can find a tech investor (not a solicitation)

That number is not the total amount though because a percentage has to be stored for the next jackpot to start (people wont want to play if the pot is empty) and a little bit goes to the marketing, and a little goes to me to pay back the loan and put food on

Seven or eight years ago I read somewhere, I forget, about such a system for playing the lottery for free.
