Well see, the problem with switching to balls is that ball drawings cost money! It is cheap/easy to click a mouse or punch some keys (software requires development, but that is one-time), but with ball drawings they have to purchase and maintain new machines and rotate ball sets. This would amplify losses even further.

A peeve of mine is that MMC still doesn't explain the details of the Vegas TV game. Appears MUSL is winging it and hoping for the best. A bad sign!

Good point about the different codes - can be confusing; too complicated for some players.

It looks like Monopoly Millionaires' Club losing money has caught the attention of the media. I read an article in the Indianapolis Business Journal about the lottery losing money and the burden it will put on their private vendor if it doesn't succeed. The lottery cannot be happy about this at all. (Internally, they are obsessed with mentions in the press they literally track every news story posted, date etc. They have even started relying on the media to drive sales for record jackpots.)

Many excellent pros and cons on this game and doesn't look like they are subject to change like when a MM or PB jackpot reaches record highs. I doubt there will be a ticket buying frenzy when the jackpot reaches $25 million so the selling point in this game should be the number of $1 million winners if the jackpot is won.

I just cant believe people claiming they cant understand the game, its pretty simple actually. And as it was said it was designed to have several millionaire winners. The game just got started but once it reaches jackpot status of 25 million and someone hits it then thats when the other millionaires will be drawn....if its not hit at 25 million its still capped at that amount and draws continue with the number being raised each draw until someone hits the main jackpot.

Look at the odds for the 2nd prize. The $100,000 one. 1 in 2,695,218. What a joke. Odds are much better playing your states cash 5 games.

On the web code? It is likely an identifier for the retailer. I can't really disclose how the web code is generated but it consists of a number of elements including the retailer ID. I haven't personally gotten a chance to examine tickets to identify each element though.

Update:

I got sales reported by one of the larger participating lotteries and amazingly, the numbers align perfectly with the average I crunched from their forecasts back in June. These guys know their numbers! No idea how the other jurisdictions have fared. Looks like no jackpot winner in the first draw which means no millionaires either, so you will have plenty of time to figure it out

There were no $100K winners either, but there were six $20K winners (nationwide)! In total over 114,000 winners, with nearly 70,000 at the $5 prize level.

That's correct. In fact, one of the commercials I saw for MMC actually shows a ticket with XX as the first two characters in the Millionaires' Club number. The ticket layouts and encoding methods are identical for every state. They are aiming to be more 'uniform' with this game.

Well this probably won't sway you but I heard something that also makes this game kinda unique. Every club prize winner is going to receive a custom-made top hat, embroidered with their initials (container will be embroidered with name) and everything. The third option says No, which means that is the no option. I wasn't going to create a poll with an unnecessary number of options, that dilutes the consensus and frankly is very annoying (IMO). Oklahoma's lottery is weak because the state population is so small. Other small states have the same problem - not enough players to build large jackpots. Scratchers usually suck in smaller states also, for the same reason.

I'm not sure if other states will be doing this, but the first drawing (Oct. 24th) the North Carolina Lottery will be conducting a separate drawing and giving away a guaranteed $1 million (regardless if the jackpot gets hit). This is in addition to the regular drawing. I assume that anyone in NC who buys a MMC ticket will qualify.

I think it's done on an ongoing basis; each lottery picks 3 players at random who have completed a monopoly, those players go on the show. There will be multiple episodes produced every season. During the off-season they will just keep collecting players into the pool that they will choose from for the next episodes. $25 million annuity is not at all tempting for $5. If it was a LotoMax clone I would play for $50 million cash jackpots.

It is good to have choices but it looks to me as if the lottery is using that logic to divide and conquer. There is going to come a time when there are so many games that nobody will win anything much on any of them. That is probably the goal for all the lotteries.

I found this recent tidbit hilarious: Minnesota's lottery director admitted that Monopoly Millionaires Club is a complicated game.

Just wanted to update everyone and say that I have seen a copy of the final rules.

There were only a couple of changes, none affecting the matrix or how the game is played.

Namely, they will no longer refer to the jackpot as a jackpot, but rather top prize. No idea why, other than perhaps distancing from PB/MM due to the capped nature of the prize. LL, I imagine the fact that the Bonus ball/property is quick-pick only will discourage players from system play as well.

Perhaps since Texas has started posting info, the other states will follow; I know that Indiana lottery has been making press announcements the last few weeks and New York a few. We're only 2 months to launch so things should definitely pick up soon. As far as anonymity it should be same as PB/MM...depends on state.

Maryland authorized the game back in their April commission meeting, they joined MUSL in July, and I'm assuming got legislature approval sometime since then.

You know, I actually told my buddy Thrifty that I wasn't really interested in this game for several reasons and downplayed it at the onset of its' introduction. Maryland seems to have made the list, but there has not been a mention of the game on the Maryland lottery website.

I saw the info on TLC's website, but didn't even read it because as of right now I have no plans to play it. I'm not opposed to dropping $5 or more at a time on a game, but this game just seems too complicated. Maybe it's old age kicking in, but I'm content to just buy some numbers, and then check 'em.

Btw I was checking some of the participating lotteries' websites and came across this announcement posted on Texas' lottery home page:

MONOPOLY MILLIONAIRES' CLUB GAME STARTS OCTOBER 19, 2014. CLICK HERE FOR DETAILS. And attached was an informational document.

It's pretty much the same stuff so I guess all the rules are set in stone already. Shame, I was hoping they would re-consider the jackpot cap

Yes, very real. Originally the cap was going to be $50 million and the prize was going to be cash payout....this was even published in a lottery magazine. But then, they changed it to a measly $25 million and made it an annuity. I think they're afraid of the game competing with MM and PB and local games.

They're banking on players paying more attention to the many million-dollar Club prize winners, but since that only happens when the jackpot gets hit, I just don't see how the game will be ex... [ More ]

Someone asked the Idaho Lottery about this on their facebook page just about a week ago. They said it's true there's a new national game, and they would keep us updated with Idaho Lottery's involvement. I assume this means they're not sure if Idaho will have it.

I took a survey for them about 6 months ago about whether I would play various games that were $5. But in their scenarios they all were daily draws, so I said no way that's too much money. Now they're trying to figure out if Idahoans... [ More ]

You're in Illinois right? Yeah, I don't see them getting in soon but they're still discussing it so never know. Minds change alot

I do think Massachusetts is in. Could be wrong and they haven't announced anything though. They (MUSL) are pushing for the big states to jump on-board because without high participation the game will quickly fail. But it's obvious that doubt exists because 43 states participate in MM/PB... Curiosity would make me try it once it's released but the $5 cost doesn't bring joy to my pockets. MA is not in it from what I see.

The ticket price is high and the fact that it's an RNG game makes it NOT my game.

Can't say I won't play, but it really depends on how much the other 9 secondary prizes pay because the odds of winning more than $25 million jackpot prize are better by buying 5 MM tickets. The chances of winning $1 million with one $5 ticket are much worse than trying to win $1 million with 5 MM tickets because it can only be on the nights when the jackpot is won.

The conditions that players can select 5 of the 52 numbers, but can't select one of the 28 properties IMO will stop many potentia... [ More ]
