I have other issues with Powerball and Mega Millions. Specifically, the prize payout scheme robs lower-tier prize winners. I can win more with much better odds by playing numbers games like the Pick 3 and the Pick 4.

I think Lucky is the best lottery documentary made. Much better than Millions. But while Millions is on YouTube, the only place I could find Lucky was on Amazon. $2.99 to stream it for 3 days. The guy whose relatives won't talk to him, has a neighbor who is jealous. The neighbor admits she's resentful that they won and she didn't. I would not be in fear of losing friends or family either, but I also don't have anyone else to really worry about. I don't have kids so its easy for me to say. Family to me is just my mom as of now. I haven't really talked to anyone else as they have their own life and such. That used to scare me when i was married. Still scares me for the child support i would be taken to court for , even though i got the kids but im sure she would want them back for the money.

I don't have friends to begin with, so that wouldn't bother me.

I already have my circle of family right now. 3 kids and my dad . 4 people. 4 people my kids being 3 of them and they would be only people in my family that would be taken care of obviously.

I would definitely not quit playing the lottery for fear of losing family or friends if I won. I figure if my win causes people to lose someone because they expected something that wasn't theirs, then I guess we weren't really close to begin with.

I like to know what that guy has been smoking. Maybe he is just a tightwad who doesn't like spending money on lottery tickets. I know some people like that. The question should have been, If I win the jackpot and offer you $1M, will you take it? . If he says yes, then he is full of it.

I just hope his family and friends realize and appreciate the chances he gave up just to make them happy. While I would never do the same for my family and friends if I ever did win and didn't want to discuss it with them I would tell them a similar story and hope they wouldn't bother me any more, if not then I would tell them where to go.

Would t be an issue here. My famiy doesnt talk now. Why should I care if thy dont talk then. Hands out mean hands down. My money will still be given away to the same organiztions I give to now, in the minimum ratios as of now. More will be given as financial planning is completed to support it! If I win a big jackpot I would get an attorney and give my siblings and daughter a nice share. For close cousins I'd give them $14,000 or whatever the amount IRS lets you give without being taxed. My extended family are my friends.

Your co-worker might be right. I know someone that loaned his friends thousands of dollars and no one answers his calls. Also his family sold all his stuff when he went to jail. The only thing my friends would get is beer.

He might need the friends more than the money and friendships unchanged

I would like to see that show Lucky. I have seen firsthand how families fight over money, inheritances etc. and it never ceases to amaze me the things people will do. Not something I will have to worry about at this point in my life lol.

That's why this was such a shock to hear and I wanted to know if this was a common thought others might have, because this guy is very A personality, doesn't give a crap what anyone thinks of him, does his own thing kind of guy. Would the guy not build a bomb shelter either for the same reason ( If it wasn't big enough to fit all his friends or family)

Does he constantly go around worrying what other people want from him or how the feel about him?

After watching the documentary Lucky and hearing about the one guy losing the friendship of people he'd known for decades, not because he didn't give them anything, but because they felt they should have won instead of him, nothing would surprise me, even in a small family.

I don't think it's about how much you need, it's more about how much someone else feels entitled to.

No, it wouldn't prevent me from playing but I still think one of the smartest things I read here on LP was by whoever said the ideal thing to happen would be for PB or MM to be pumped up and get hit, the winners still hasn't shown up to claim their jackpot, and you hit it at the start point.

I wish I could remember who posted that.
