Didnt win a dime. Very surprised to see all the million dollar winners to be in the 200K range. All four big hits were within about 90,000 or so of each other, which seems unusual, so if you waited to play after Christmas you didn't win the big bucks but if you waited until after Christmas you had a good shot at the 100K.

For players such as myself that don't live in PA, there's a hidden danger in buying raffle tickets.

Because I live in New York and have a about a 45 minute drive to the NY/PA border, when I buy tickets, I buy a set of 7 tickets for my office pool at work. I'm forced into doing that because it'd be very impractical for me to drive to 45 minutes to PA day after day.

In past raffles, I bought a set of seven tickets and received a set of numbers that look something like this;

@GiveFive If you bought a ticket, you can win. I had 5 small wins in the past 16 months, two of the wins I was one number off from the $1 million prize level - technically both wins would have been for more than $1M because I had the multiplier. We play to dream and hopefully win.

I thank those who shared the ticket counter. I did make it to PA and got some raffle tickets. Hoping to win big in 2017.

The ticket counter is still gone from The PA Lottery's website. When I checked it this morning, it said Drawing is tomorrow! Play now! Ticket sales end at 8 PM on Saturday .

Kind of makes me think that The PA Lottery is thinking tickets wont sell out. Which is fine with me.

I too was wondering why ticket sales died a few days prior to the drawing. Hard to figure why.

Although in previous years the drawing was held on January 1st as opposed to this year's drawing being held on January 7th. The mad rush to buy tickets in previous years usually peaked on New Year's Eve. Last Saturday was New Years Eve, and ticket sales were very heavy that day, so maybe the later drawing date had something to do with it. Just a wild guess on my part. G5

With roughly 2.5 days remaining, the terminal at my local grocery store this am said 24,380 tickets remain. That equates to sell 9800 per day to sell out. Not sure what caused the big slow down in sales, the last few days of sales were always the peak, averaging 35000 sold per day. People have Christmas credit card bills to pay, but that was always the truth during past new year's raffles so i don't know what happened this time. Something happened to me last Saturday during that New Year's Eve ticket buying frenzy, when I bought the second set of 7 tickets for the pool I run at work. It doesn't mean anything as far as winning tickets go, it's just an observation on my part.

Difference is 5,000 sold from 4:45 PM yesterday. In 16 hours they've been selling at an average rate of 300 per hour.

300 per hour equals a rate of 7200 per day, which is low. (sales during the wee hours of the morning had to be very slow) My guess is they'll sell today at a rate closer to 550 per hour or 13,200 per day. At a rate of 20,000 per day, they'd sell out on Tuesday January 3rd. I dunno, 20K per day seems like a lot to me. That's an average rate of almost 1,000 per hour, but it does look like they're selling at a rate of 12 to 13,000 per day. It'll be interesting to see if that rate picks up during the holiday weekend. G5

Yeah, it'd be kinda nice if The PA Lottery had that ticket countdown on their website. They used to have it in past raffles, but no more.

The Early Bird thing really juiced up PA's ticket sales. Florida is selling their raffle tickets now for a 1/3/2017 drawing, and even though they did The Early Bird thing too, it's looking like they wont sell out. But then they sell a max of 750,000 tickets and their Early Bird top prizes were only $10,000. G5

I am only buying one more ticket, probably next Tuesday in the event sales pick up even more, which is likely. Not sure if the PA lottery will have the countdown on their website of the number of tickets remaining which will help people decide when to buy. They are selling very briskly and selling out before the 5th is likely. The early bird drawings really helped sales and sales on the last few days are always really high.

I've been thinking that I should take a run over to PA soon so that I would be guaranteed we'd get the other eight tickets. I'll probably run over there next weekend. I could go one night during the week after January 1st, but I won't push it too late in the week because I too think by the 5th they'll probably be sold out.

I just found this thread, not sure why I didnt see it sooner. What a great sales pitch to have the early bird drawing, seems to be working well for the PA lottery. I noticed they passed on the Halloween raffle this year due to poor sales from the prior quarterly raffles. Results for the last early bird raffle will be posted today. Just as an FYI... The Florida Lottery is running a holiday raffle too. It's quite similar to PA's, 750,000 max tickets sold, 4 winners of one million dollars, and tickets cost 20 bucks a pop.

They've got six Early Bird drawings going too, except the three winners of that only win $10,000. They've been selling tickets at a 10,000 per day clip (70,000 per week) so the odds to win 10 grand are about 70,000 to 1.

Compare that to PA's 5,900 per day and about 40,000 to 1 odds to win 50 Grand....... [ More ]

My wife bought my tickets yesterday at about 4 PM. They're in the 147,000 range. Looks like they are selling at an average rate of about 5,900 per day. (I divided 147,000 by 25 and got a result of 5880)

The Early Bird strategy must be working because I don't think tickets sold at that rate per day in previous years. At least they didn't sell at that rate this early in the past.

Looks like they're right on track/schedule too. Next Wednesday (Dec7th) is the mid-way point in the sales cycle... [ More ]

You might be interested to know that in the previous years that PA has offered the millionaire raffle, there has always been a HUGE rush to buy tickets about a week before the drawing. Ticket sales (per day) go from about 2,000, to 8,000 to 10,000 per day. Now that in and of itself doesn't mean very much, but if you took a look at the top prize winning ticket numbers, you'd have seen that ab... [ More ]

I found some info on The PA Lottery's website with regard to the number of tickets sold for the first and second Early Bird drawings. For the first drawing they sold 42,322 tickets which made the odds of winning $50,000 42,322 to 1. For the second Early Bird drawing they sold 39,513 tickets which made the odds 39,513 to1. Not too bad odds to win 50 grand. G5

Picked up my pool's tickets this afternoon at about 3 PM. They're in the 1034xx range.

They must have been selling pretty good on this Black Friday. The 1st ticket was printed at 15:01 and the last was printed at 15:05. (I went to two different stores to buy a total of seven tickets) and the difference between the 1st number and the last number is 47. G5

I should point out that because there are THREE ticket numbers drawn in each Early Bird drawing, if they sell 84,000 for the first drawing, then the odds are not 84,000 to 1, they are 28,000 to 1.

I've already jumped on The Early Bird!!

I bought two tickets today... they were in the 18,6XX range. So as you can see, ticket sales have been about 6,000 per day since last Tuesday when tickets first went on sale. That's a high number of ticket sales given that it's very early in the sales cycle. (It's about 3 times the usual rate per day) Usually at this point in the cycle, we've seen a number of approximately 2,000 tickets sold per day.
