Never play lotto mega powerball waste of money. I certainly dont get knots in my stomach after submitting my ticket LOL. Dollar and a dream is more like a dollar down the drain. While I play all the jackpot games, I do like All or Nothing and Texas Triple Chance because of the overall odds. I may not make a profit on those games, but I do win back more money on them than any other game. Everybody likes to get a bone thrown to them once in a while.

I don't look at the odd of winning the Jackpot. I look at the overall odds of winning anything (refund of money or greater). Mega millions has overall odds of 1 in 14.71 or 6.8%. Powerball is 1 in 24.9 or 4%. So in the simplistic terms, expect 4-7+ dollars for each 100$ you spend on the 2 games. Meanwhile, for 20$ scratchers (in illinois) the overall odd are about 40% (1$ tickets are at about 20%). The lottery officials have become quite greedy when it comes to the Powerball and MegaMilions. They made it difficult to win in order to increase the Jackpot to their desired payout amount. Everything is done by computer to ensure that no one has the winning numbers. The live drawings are just for show. There was a time when a lot of folks won either game. In my opinion, Pick 4 is simply the $10 version of Pick 3. NY used to have a game called Sweet Million. Odds were I think around 1:4,000,000 for a jackpot win. Every so often I would catch a guy in the store that would take over one of the machines and buy 1,000 quick picks in cash. My gf at the time asked him what's the most he ever won? I wouldn't call him a degenerate. Besides in terms of what BobP was referring to, yeah $80 a day, but in the end he got it all back at once. Can take care of a lot more with 25K at one time than waiting with 80 here and 80 there. Not to put anyone anywhere, but for NY players $80 a day is nothing. That's typical. Not a day goes by I don't see someone spending $50 a draw or even $140 a draw. I used to spend about $60 a day.

There probably are pick-3 and pick-4 players that made a few nice hits and used it to help them retire early, but the 50% edge prevents anyone from making a living depending on winning those games. Casino games like Blackjack, Craps and Roulette all have edges under 6% and there is horse and dog racing or even Bingo with much better chances of showing nice profits.

I can pick 4 numbers correct in Maddogs challenge but will I get it the same line.

Also don't forget anything over $600 is taxable too.

It's not worth it and even if you have stocks, bonds, iras, etc. it all depends on principal and interests too.

Even for those unable to play Pick-3/4 at a profit, the utility value of the occasional Straight win can mean a new appliance or set of tires for the price of Star Bucks on a daily basis. Interesting comparison, the main difference is this - At the end of the day Poker has at Least ONE big winner at each tournament. Not to mention all the lower prizes that are won.

Numbers (pick 3 4) doesn't have anything like that.

But there is nothing stopping someone from making enough to quit there job. Just read the Lottery News forum and there is a story about people wining 100 times or more - so it appears it may be possible.

NO !!! NOT WISE !!! In Fact, quite DUMB !!! A job has advantages that playing the lottery full time does not offer - like Health Insurance !!!

You would have to WIN Pick 3/4 regularly on a monthly basis to be able to afford Health Insurance

I know that many young men and women have quit high paying 6 figure income jobs to play poker for a living but do you know of anyone that quit their 9-5 to play pick 3 4
