A similar thing happened to another LP poster last week and apparently a store in MN was selling mistake tickets for past drawings.

Thank you very much for your advice, Stack47. I will follow it. The ticket is for MIDDAY, 8/6/2017. It was printed at 10:57:02, the same day, and they sold it to me at 7pm, on 8/6/17.

If the results were already in and they sold you a losing ticket, you were cheated so make copies and send the ticket to lottery headquarters along with your timed receipt. If the ticket was for the next day's midday drawing, it was exactly what you agreed to buy.

Sunday I went to the 7/11 to buy some midday numbers. I gave the clerk my 3 play slips and he dropped one. It seemed like he couldn't find it at first, so I told him, If you can't find it I know what the numbers were. Then he handed it to me and asked, Is this it? It was.

Regardless, amber123 is spot on. One should always check to be sure they receive what they intended before leaving. Even using a play slip is no guarantee, since it can be misread. Not common, but it does happen. Also, double-checking is more important than ever, since many lotteries don't allow for cancellation.

Thank you, amber123, but saying that, you encourage other clerks to resell losing tickets. That guy knew that the ticket wasn't printed while I waited for it so he should check it before giving it to me.

Your answer was yes, that avoided the clerk printing you a fresh ticket.

It was two clerks at the store, and the one that alerted the other, about the $2.00 EZmatch, already knew to try and sell the ticket.

I would fill out my play slip, from this point on, with what I would like to play.

I don't see where you were cheated. Did the clerk KNOW the ticket was for midday drawing? Did they TELL YOU the ticket was for evening draw? Why did you wait until you got home to check the ticket? It is always our RESPONSIBILITY to check our tickets BEFORE accepting the ticket.

I know it sucks, but in the end just learn and move on. Just the other day I purchased what I thought was a $1 Classic Lotto (Ohio) and when I got home, I noticed it was for Rolling Cash 5. No biggie as far as I am co... [ More ]

Ah yes, Let the buyer beware. , that's the criminal's bread-and-butter.

You need to contact the state lottery and explain your experience.

Tell them where you bought the ticket and what happened.

Be very clear about the facts and don't inject emotion or personal feeling about the situation.

If it's a corporate store, contact their headquarters and do the same; tell what store and what happened.

You could file a complaint with the Illinois Lottery explaining you were sold a pre-printed, losing ticket for a previous drawing. Don't count on being compensated, but there's a slight chance, especially if others have complained too about issues with that retailer, the Illinois Lottery might investigate further.

As for the future, likely best to buy elsewhere; use a self-service terminal. Or better yet, eliminate the retailer part entirely, and buy a subscription on-line at the Illinois Lot... [ More ]

I was in a gas station in a village located in north west suburbs of Chicago, IL. I got gas and bought a lucky day ticket. When I was paying, there were two clerks.
