  Hi everyone,

  I'd like to share my experience with one of the lottery vendors.

  I was in a gas station in a village located in north west suburbs of Chicago, IL. I got gas and bought a lucky day ticket. When I was paying, there were two clerks. I paid one of them for gas, and I said "lucky day two dollars please". The other guy said quietly to the guy who served me "you have lucky day ezmatch". The clerk who served me asked me if I would take a $2 ticket with ezmatch. I said "Ok, I will take it". It was 08/06/2017, 7.00 PM. I have a reward card from that gas station and I get emails after each purchase with exact time.  Later on, at home, I noticed that the ticket I bought was sold around 11 am (the exact time is on my lottery ticket) and it was for a midday draw which means that I didn't get what I paid for as I was there at 7 pm. Obviously, the numbers on the ticket didn't win.

  I was undoubtedly cheated by the clerks and am going to do something about it. For sure, a compensation of a new $2 lottery ticket will not satisfy me.

  Any ideas what to do?

  You could file a complaint with the Illinois Lottery explaining you were sold a pre-printed, losing ticket for a previous drawing. Don't count on being compensated, but there's a slight chance, especially if others have complained too about issues with that retailer, the Illinois Lottery might investigate further.

  As for the future, likely best to buy elsewhere; use a self-service terminal. Or better yet, eliminate the retailer part entirely, and buy a subscription on-line at the Illinois Lottery website.

  Ah yes, "Let the buyer beware.", that's the criminal's bread-and-butter.

  You need to contact the state lottery and explain your experience.

  Tell them where you bought the ticket and what happened.

  Be very clear about the facts and don't inject emotion or personal feeling about the situation.

  If it's a corporate store, contact their headquarters and do the same; tell what store and what happened.

  I don't see where you were cheated. Did the clerk KNOW the ticket was for midday drawing? Did they TELL YOU the ticket was for evening draw? Why did you wait until you got home to check the ticket? It is always our RESPONSIBILITY to check our tickets BEFORE accepting the ticket.

  I know it sucks, but in the end just learn and move on. Just the other day I purchased what I thought was a $1 Classic Lotto (Ohio) and when I got home, I noticed it was for Rolling Cash 5. No biggie as far as I am concerned. I purchase my tickets at the same store every day and ASSUMED I would get what I paid for as usual. In the end, it was MY fault for not checking the ticket beforehand. Remember, the person behind the counter is a HUMAN and will suffer from an occasional error every now and then, just as we ALL do. 

   

  Now if you REALLY believe you were cheated, then by all means go ahead and report it.

  Keywords:  Would you take a $2.00 EZMatch!.

   

  Your answer was yes, that avoided the clerk printing you a fresh ticket.

  It was two clerks at the store, and the one that alerted the other, about the $2.00 EZmatch, already knew to try and sell the ticket.

   

  I would fill out my play slip, from this point on, with what I would like to play.

   

  Good Luck though.

  Thank you, amber123, but saying that, you encourage other clerks to resell losing tickets. That guy knew that the ticket wasn't printed while I waited for it so he should check it before giving it to me.

  Regardless, amber123 is spot on. One should always check to be sure they receive what they intended before leaving. Even using a play slip is no guarantee, since it can be misread. Not common, but it does happen. Also, double-checking is more important than ever, since many lotteries don't allow for cancellation.

  If you wanna win with the game tickets you buy, you better wake up and pay attention. Otherwise that pair will cheat you again.

  Sunday I went to the 7/11 to buy some midday numbers. I gave the clerk my 3 play slips and he dropped one. It seemed like he couldn't find it at first, so I told him, "If you can't find it I know what the numbers were."  Then he handed it to me and asked, "Is this it?"  It was.

  Normally I wouldn't have given it a second thought, but after reading this thread, now I'm wondering if he had other play  slips behind the counter when he asked me, "Is this it?" If I hadn't told him I knew what the numbers were, who knows what numbers I would have ended up with.

  I-agree-with-doing-a-follow-up-and-turning-those-a-holes-into-the-authorities....just-saying-to-always-check...as-a-general-rule.

  Even when playing a quick pick there's 'safety' on play slips!

  Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners. 

  

  There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

  If the results were already in and they sold you a losing ticket, you were cheated so make copies and send the ticket to lottery headquarters along with your timed receipt. If the ticket was for the next day's midday drawing, it was exactly what you agreed to buy.
