Better ------won a first division prize in 2011. MM has a jackpot only option where players get two chances for $3, but I prefer $3 megaplier option and get $3 Powerplay PB tickets too. Won $500 with powerplay a few game changes ago and that's probably one game I actually show a profit. I try to stay away from the several you'll probably never win lottery games though I'll get a ticket when the jackpot is at the probably must win level.

I love winning just about any cash prize, but I dont ever expect to win anything.

About 15 years ago the Ohio Lottery added a multiple times type option to their play slips. Watching the expression on the clerk's face when the terminal kept printing tickets was priceless. Not sure if they still have that option.

I too think most players are hoping to win a large prize, me included. But when I play PowerBall, but I hardly ever know what the advertised jackpot amount happens to be. I buy the PowerPlay option hoping to have five numbers and win 2 million.

You're right too about a players expectations. I love winning just about any cash prize, but I dont ever expect to win anything. G5

Not questioning your case example. Have often been surprised by people who didn't know they could buy the same number more then once per draw. Even had cashiers point out to me I was playing the same number again. Not adverse to putting $10 on a number, though it takes ten play slips to get ten separate tickets . . . then they start trying to explain how to play.

The difference I find with the casino playing slots is the ability to walk away while winning. Have to put so much in, and then things tilt the other way and I'm up a hundred or two, time to walk away or lose it back and then some. When playing the lottery the lower prizes are too small to be attractive as they were in the day. The Florida Fantasy Five roll down is a grand, which would be great if not for the government entanglements collecting plus taxes. Would have been better if they made it... [ More ]

I have had way more success in a casino over the years than lotto but for the last seven years I have been low rolling on lotto tickets for state and multi-state games and little to no casino. It is cheaper to play lotto a little here and their then try to go to a casino and win with few dollars. I like to look at jackpots and think what if so I play Oregon megabucks and Powerball and Mega millions for fun to just think it could be me or someone else. IMO most real lottery tickets are purchased hoping to win a large jackpot. If a player never won a 6 figure or more jackpot, a nice secondary prize, or even made more than they spent, can't see why they would say their experience was better than expected. If they never won prizes over $1000, their experience should be much worse than expected. I voted 50 /50, mostly because of some self expressed 'geniuses' I've met.......

One example is a guy who told me he hit 317 straight 26 times one year (all in the same state), I guess he either forgot or didn't know results are posted on the internet.

Then threre are those who rant a rave about certain facts that are facts in their minds only.

Had to vote 50/50 on this one. I know enough to never bet more than I can afford to lose, and I do play for the fun of it. So you'd think I wouldn't get frustrated when I lose. (which is more often than I win) But there are times when I get so frustrated by playing that I tell myself I'm never gonna play again!

I am right there with rcbbuckeye on this one. Entertainment purposes only. Mostly scratchers with the PB, MM and LA. My big purchase for the year is when I purchase a full pack of $2 tickets for the Mrs and I to scratch off @ Xmas eve.

That what if factor the day my numbers come in always brings a good feeling of what I could do to help a number of people and certain organizations.

I never thought of playing the lottery as for better or for worse . It's a hobby. I've been playing for close to 40 years. I used to study numbers, patterns, etc. Now, I mostly just play QP's. Played Pick 3, Pick 4, Lotto, MM, PB, Cash 5, just about any game available. Now I've cut back some, but will always play something. Just to dream about maybe that one ticket being the one

It is a challenge, like any game, watch and learn use simple or complex calculations to achieve a set of numbers to try out, wait with anticipation for the results that can be: happy returns or a loss that will help create,make changes for the next draw.

For me gambling has been like a religion. What I mean by that is we believe that by believing in a higher power and being a good person, some day we will be rewarded with paradise, heaven, etc. Playing the lottery for me hasn't been great to be honest but I can't stop now after having invested so much time, money and effort. I'm still hoping for a big, big win. Just like heaven, the jackpot would be heaven for me.
