No,.. it wasn't meant to be sarcastic, I agree with you both ,.. that's why I said.. if it was done without any Red Flags raised, then I seems obvious , that a crooked Cashier would've had to cash it...afterall, the Cashiers are right there in the Casino, as grwurston suggested...so.. voila.. your prime suspect..!!

The person I quoted said that a Racetrack Cashier never cashed a one sided Scanned ticket and I said that was a good point. Most Racetrack Cashiers should find a one sided Scanned ticket suspicious. I don't know why you had the sarcastic reply....

Well, You need not be a Jazz Musician or Rocket Scientist or Columbo to deduce that the person responsible for stealing and cashing the scanned ticket had to have been EXACTLY THAT..!!

A RACETRACK CASHIER..!! Duuuhh.. Whoelse COULD'VE done it?,.. based on those aforementioned criteria..it certainly would explain EVERYTHING..!!

Yep, you make very valid points about a Racetrack Cashier never cashing out a one sided Scanned ticket. The back would have definitely said the Casino name and address. I didn't know that a $900 Race Ticket would generate a W2G Form. I play Slots, so $900 wouldn't generate a W2G, the Threshold for Slots is $1200.

Honestly, if you're smart about it, you can post your winning tickets online without having your winnings stolen.

Cash the ticket before posting it, which I think a lot of people here do or make sure all identifiable information is blacked out.

I never post winning tickets without doing one of the choices above.

Have a Facebook friend that worked as a racetrack cashiers for years and he said her never heard of someone handing a cashier a one sided scanned ticket. Not saying it never happened somewhere, but he reminded if it did, the ticket value was over the $600 so the ticket holder need to show ID with SS number and got a W-2G.

Police were looking to track down the Thief.

Why didn't the police simply look at the W-2G that the name and address of the person that cashed the ticket

The whole thing doesn't make sense.

But let's say you have a picture of a winning ticket that hasn't been cashed yet -- the clerk would have to verify that it's yours, right? Like a picture of the back of the ticket--with your signature on it.

So if there is no such picture, then the real ticket would have to be there before giving out the cash.

Strangely the thread starter didn't ask the name and address with the scanned or photographed ticket and or payout ticket. I have a scan of the payout for a $160000 on my website. I didn't make it over 1660 myself. I feel ashamed, I should have won over half a million. ...

About posting Winning Lottery Tickets online, it has crossed my mind even before this thread that the Post Your Winning Ticket, thread on here might be a bad idea if people post their Winning Tickets BEFORE cashing it/them in....

I left those, shared winning tips too. Being member of/in FB from out of your living room is like standing in the middle of a busy train station surrounded by crooks, thieves and weird people. Besides that you get e-mails that you switched off earlier. You get friendship requests of the king of Zamunda from Central Africa, or Mohamed Akbar Bin Laden to Azra l the cat of Gargamel or some fake profiles. Looks like a mirror image of the USA?

Some people on fb have hundreds of friends that they only know though fb. Never seen them, never met them, but yet will share all kinds of info about themselves, families, or personal business. Unfortunately, some get themselves in trouble due to sharing . You got to be careful.

You have a valid point there! I guess someone could have taken their Home Scanner with them to that Casino/Hotel and scanned the winning ticket and cashed it and collected it that way. It made no sense for me that they already Scanned and cashed it in and collected it all within FIFTEEN minutes, but your explanation of them already being in the same Casino/Hotel as her makes perfect sense!

On a Google link, a guy said he showed a Winning Lottery ticket or something Facebook and someone scanned it and cashed it in.... The thing is, his Facebook is set to PRIVATE, meaning it was someone he knew in Real life who stole from him whereas Chantel(Woman in my OP) had a PUBLIC Facebook it seems. Sucks even more when it's Someone you know in real life rather than Anonymous, Random People online....

It's possible that unknown to her, her fb friend just happened to be staying in a room at the casino/hotel at the time. They could have scanned the ticket in their room and just went downstairs to the casino to cash it.

How many fb friends would you recognize in public if you had never met

Hmm. Someone showed his LOW LIFE Roommate his Winning Ticket worth like 10 Million, and the LOW LIFE Roommate STOLE the ticket for himself and went to Lottery Office to claim it. They asked him where he bought this ticket from and.... His answers made no sense. They immediately got suspicious and did an Investigation and there Suspicions were confirmed as it turned out, his Roommate was the actual Buyer/Winner. Actually, I checked the Website again and it said she didn't know she showed the Barcode at all. Too late for me to edit my Post. In the picture, you can see the Barcode is clearly visible. Her fingers ALMOST cover up the Barcode, but they don't.

Lottery Officials usually don't have a BIG hear or Sympathy for a Player's sTUPiDiTy...such as loosing your ticket, allowing the Redemption Grace Period to expire, or in an Online circumstance, publishing an uncashed lottery ticket accessible to the General Public...So accordingly...

When places were closed up due to this pandemic , I would scan books with an app that I have and be able to find out if profitable items or not. The same with games, puzzles, etc. Now on amazon, you can't list certain things if it is a liable , copyright, etc. I wasn't thrilled because the way amazon is, but on ebay lets see if people can find it. I remember on another Website why she didn't cash it in first and then take a picture of the CASH if she is wanted to show it off. IIRC, someone responded something like, Well, some low life/lives who was/ were in the area looking at their phone when she posted that on Facebook could show up to that Casino and look for her to try to Rob her at gunpoint or something.

Even if you DID foolishly show your Winning Lottery Ticket Online and some THIEF scanned it using a Home Scanner and cashed it in and collected on it, wouldn't you still have a good case on winning your money since you most likely wouldn't look like the Thief? Not only are the Barcodes a way of stealing the lottery prize money online , but also the serial numbers printed at the bottom are the equivalent...I know because, I once had a ticket that was sooo worn (because of heat, or had been in my pocket so long) til you couldn't make out the actual Lottery numbers on it, but the serial numbers at the bottom of the ticket were readable... clerk punched them into the terminal...voila....I recieved my prize money...

Next time you get a winning ticket, scan it, copy it and then check bar code on the copy at a lottery scanner. Never tried cashing a copy of a lottery ticket before, but if this story is the truth, it's obviously possible.
