Not only do odds deceive players, some use the deception to justify their bet. The usual payoff for $2 straight bets on a pick-3 number is $1000 and someone could call it an even money payoff because the odds against are 1000 to 1. The house edge is usually the difference between the actual odds and the payoff odds and it really applies more to the lotteries than to individual players. Over time if they pay $500 for a win that has 1000 to 1 odds, their house edge is slightly over 50% because they keep the dollar bet and the player wins $499.

It's not impossible, but very very difficult to pick one pick-3 digit out of three in 80% of the drawings. And a bet on that digit will still have to overcome the 50% house edge.... [ More ]

You can easily calculate house edge for each jackpot lottery. This is how I did it for my lottery which is 649.

Win level Prize Win chance Profit ratio Cumulative profit ratio

2+ $5 1 in 81.2 0.062 0.062

3 $10 1 in 56.7 0.176 0.238

4 $75 1 in 1033 0.073 0.311

5 $750 1 in 55492 0.014 0.325

5+ $75K 1 in 2330636 0.032 0.357

The issue is the percentage at which one selects the correct numbers.

I use this measurement as the very basis of selecting numbers for playing and call it the hit ratio - how many numbers did I match in the latest 10 draws with a selected prediction system? It must be at least the minimum win in my lottery which is 3. Anything hitting less than that will be discarded until it improves its score. Have you noticed that most of these holy grail of lottery systems questions never include the type of game or the number of possible outcome?

Take a while but hitting 80% of the MM and/or PB bonus numbers could create a really nice profit especially if only one number is played. For an extra buck on each line could play the Megaplier and Power Play options and really clean up. But it looks like they are only asking how to hit one combination out of 302,575,350 in 80% of all drawings.

Picking the right numbers is the only 100% guarantee to win. The issue is the percentage at which one selects the correct numbers. Thing is with many of my working outs. If I don't end up choosing the correct numbers I can always see them after the game has been drawn and be like how did I not see that coming.

Same as you'd build any search engine.

Set up queries to input your criteria.

Now you have two options.......

1) you write the program to build each combination and determine if it meets the criteria, or

2) you prepare a file with all the possible combinations and criteria and run it through the search engine.

The reason I write to a file is 41,888 or 9,844,000 combinations with the necessary data will not fit on the screen.

hello=you can use crossover from several group strategies in order to reduce the bet. you can use the previous draws as a reference and avoid conflicting filters, depending on the size of the lottery.

For Mega Million for 80% we have to cover roughly 9.844 million combinations.

Now determine what variables, applied together, will make that many combinations.

The question is: Can that be done applying more than one variable?

Wait and see what others say. Too many good people here with good ideas who can offer some help. Not like we're exposing anything the lottery doesn't already know. We've had lotteries in the states since the 1960's and before. So they have the capability and the software to feed the winning numbers into a computer and know (before the draws are posted) all the probabilities and possibilities for the next draw. So we're not exposing anything they don't know.

Garyo 80% is that central band of patterns that happens every 10 draws 8 gets it right, there will always be 20% of the extremes of the bell curve, but 80% is already very useful.
