If I won one of these huge jackpots, I'd certainly start by hiring all sorts of professionals to help manage everything. gift out the maximum allowed to family and friends. Pay off all my debt. First asset purchase would be a house with an indoor pool of course, many acres of land for my own race track, off road park and shooting range mmm hmmm. Dream big. If you win enough you can afford one of those special islands that's only partially surrounded by water. That way you may have the option of not being off-grid if you'd like. Private islands sound romantic, but there's a lot to be said for easy access to utilities, easy access to fresh water, and a road that leads to the other places you want to be.

I used to sell real estate in north Ohio around Vermilion, Huron, and Sandusky, all cities on Lake Erie, in the 1980's and early '90's. My best sale was a condo in Huron. A couple from California bought it for $225,000 cash. Couldn't believe how cheap it was compared to CA.

The seller's agent was suspicious because nobody around there paid cash for property, but these folks had sold their home in CA for over a million dollars.

The book also gives stats for generational wealth and how it often evaporates after a couple of generations.. Mostly due to poor money management skills, buying a new car every year or two and having a spend spend spend philosophy.

I've seen that book, but never found the time to buy it and read it. My source of knowledge (what little there is of it) is that someone in my immediate family is employed in the Financial Industry in New York City. Until recently they worked for a global investment bank, but left that job for a different job in Private Equity. My relative has on the job exposure to how very wealthy people manage and invest their money.

I usually don't play lottery games that offer life changing jackpots. I'm much too practical for that sort of thing.

I spend my lottery budget on games with lower odds that typically offer $200,000 jackpots. (Pick5 games) We're in a comfortable financial situation, but if I won a jackpot of that size, it would make us a little more comfortable than we already are. Lol You need to hire an attorney from a medium to large firm and ideally barred in the state of your win. But you get it in that all types of advisors need to be watched and keep legal advice separate from specific investment advice. I would even double check monthly investment reports supplied to make certain they are real and no one in pulling a Bernie Madoff scam. He fooled a lot of people with fake investment reports.

I'm surprised this topic doesn't have at least 30 replies by now. It's an often asked question. I'd probably feel like Callie Rodgers did and feel like I am SUPPOSED to spend the money, living my life up. Several years ago I was on the buy a private island in the Bahamas kick if I ever won a big jackpot.

Problem was my wife wasn't interested in living on an island surrounded by water.

Now that I just have my 3 kids, I'm not sure I want to be that far away.

Probably would just find a quiet place in the Hill Country in Texas.

Well I'd run around in crazy circles screaming like a banshee , fall , hit my head and go to the hospital.

After getting patched up I'd be hungry so I'd get some hamburgers and ice cream, get food poisoning , go back to the hospital, get my sad tummy fixed,

Go home again walk in the door and trip over the dog, back to the hospital for sprained wrist.
