Were you in a time warp for two weeks? This thread reached its conclusion a while ago and you already said what you said about being filmed. Two lessons:

1) Don't steal from people. 2) Don't allow yourself to be recorded by strangers or for unclear purposes.

I was just thinking about the People who failed the Undercover Lottery Investigation allowing themselves to be filmed whereas some failed ones didn't show up on Camera. They were probably told that a camera crew was coming and probably assumed it was going to be something like, This Gas Station is getting a Best Gas Station in town! Award! What idiotic Lottery Clerk doesn't recognize a sting interrogation?

The story was about clerks working in stores selling multiple products and in one of those stores the owner told the person their ticket was a $1000 winner. Have no idea if there are stores where one clerk's sole job is to sell lottery tickets. Apparently just three of the seven agreed to be interviewed by Hanson so one or more of the other four said NO or the interview wasn't worth showing. The clerks didn't have to answer... [ More ]

Most and probably all honest and hard working people do not assume a sting if one is being interrogated. I would never assume a sting since I am not a criminal. Criminals have different frames of reference.

How about that; a story from 2013 about Chris Hanson trying to increase ratings by looking for unscrupulous store clerks. The topic, wait for the check before speaking sure looks like a warning to all wanna-be lottery ticket thieves on LP. I'm assuming that because the story says nothing about how to check the tickets before handing them to a clerk or to ask for the ticket back if they are told their winning ticket is a loser.

If I were you I would not let my employer or coworkers know I had an avid interest in lottery fraud stories. They might start to wonder...

What if she had already received the money? I am not following the obsession with her acknowledging the setup and speaking before she got the check. You seem to be suggesting she should have waited for the money ....which was never coming to her...and fled. Common sense to wait for the money before speaking. No. It was irrelevant.

To the Posters implying that I was standing up for Josephine, I wasn't. My thoughts were, Wow! What a stupid woman! When I saw the video. She didn't even think to acknowledge the Winning check at your job was a set up and just spoke without actually getting the winning check ! On here I was actually implying that she was an idiot, a thief, and a liar. I was roasting and insulting her, not standing up for her.

The News Reporter interrogating Josephine should have called her out on her lie about finding the Lottery ticket in the parking lot and then saying she threw it in the trash when the Undercover Investigator told her she didn't want it. I would have been like, Which one is it? Did you find the Lottery ticket in the parking lot or did the Customer hand it to you to check for you? It is curious that a lp member is defending a crook. Crooks tend to be rather dumb and pathological liars so trying to come with a story is to be expected. Being silent at that point in time would not have helped either.

That did sound odd to me too. I thought if someone had won a prize that required claiming through a lottery office the claimant would get the check either on the spot or through the mail.

I've never won a prize that big so I don't really know what happens. On the other hand, people often fall for these lottery scams in which they have to pay up front to get the prize so it doesn't surprise me she didn't question it.

Very interesting video. It doesn't surprise me though. One thing Louisiana has done is the terminals have a small display that the customer can see, but it's not big and most don't look at it.

Some of the stories these clerks told were just crazy. I'm glad they got busted.

I always check my own tickets. Since the Louisiana Lottery introduced the lottery smartphone app that allows me to scan my own tickets so I don't depend on them to scan it for me.

She told the undercover investigator that the winning lottery ticket was a loser and then went to another store and verified that it was a winner.
