Powerball is 473 Million and I haven't seen a huge frenzy at my Lottery Retailer. I only saw a frenzy once the day right after Megamillions was won. I asked why there was a Frenzy when the MM was already won. I was told Powerball was now a huge Jackpot, hence the frenzy still being there. This week however, I haven't seen a frenzy at all despite it being 473 Million.

The 1.3 Billion Jackpot has been won in Maine. Back to 20 Million starting point. I had two MM tickets, one with the 14 Megaball and a 13 Megaball. So, I won $2 back for the 14 Megaball. Powerball is better than Megamillions because you double your money with just the Powerball number and with MM, you just get your base money back for a Megaball.

I went to a Lottery Retailer today and there was absolutely no frenzy. There was only one other person playing. Weird how when the Powerball was at roughly 2 billion, there were lines of like 30 people

Maybe the 2 billion PB drawing in Nov has something to do with it.

During the first 15 drawings of the current MM run only two drawings had sales of more than 15 million tickets, and those two were a hair less than 15.1 million tickets. Ticket sales are down quite a bit from the last time Mega Millions had a billion dollar JP in July. The advertised JP started out at 1.02 billion for the July 29 drawing and ended up moving to 1.1 billion and then finally ending up at 1.28 billion. Ticket sales for that drawing were 703 million dollars. For this drawing the advertised JP started at 1.1 billion and never moved. Ticket sales for the drawing were 287 million. Maybe the 2 billion PB drawing in Nov has something to do with it.

Anyway what I really meant was that when the $1 Billion Jackpot was won in Michigan the Cash Value was about $777 Million and this $1.15 Billion Jackpot cash value was only $587 Million

I went to a Lottery Retailer just about an hour ago,and there were only about 6 people in line It seemed like just a normal day. Only one guy kept playing big, but he was gracious enough to let me play my two paper slips (Jackpot Triple Play and Megamillions)and then kept playing.

I'd personally rather have roughly 300 Million rather than just 20 Million. ;) Assuming it's a split between three different people like the 2016 Powerball was. 1.1 billion before taxes would be ideal to me as a sole winner.

I know. I can't believe he'd rather only have 20 Million to himself rather than having say 300 Million due to splitting it with two other people. The only way his logic would make sense is if he was thinking of the fame he'd get as a sole winner rather than as just one third of the winners. He probably was thinking more fame wise than financial wise.

There was an email circulating sometime ago saying that your chances of winning were better if you play when it's low because there wasn't as much competition. That of course isn't true, but it does reduce your chance of having to share.

I think that logic is flawed since the higher the jackpot, the more there is to go around. I do agree with the idea of not playing calendar dates and other common sets of numbers because there will be serious sharing of the jackpot if one of those combos hit... [ More ]

It is not really 1.1 Billion. Look at the cash values and you will realize another $200,000,000 Cash value needs to be tacked on before this is a legitimate Billion dollar pot.

Apparently mega millions site crashes for 2 hours in recent days.

Sounds like lotto fever to me.

I would be surprised if they don't sell at least 200 million tickets by the Tuesday drawing.

That means a $200+ million increase in the jackpot.

I know I won't win.

But it's fun to buy 1 ticket ever drawing for a few weeks and dream of what I'd do with the money.
