Without knowing the actual breakdown we won't know for sure, but we can see what the probabilities are. There were about 9.5 million tickets sold and it's fairly safe to assume that no more than 80%, or a maximum of 7.55 million, were QP. and that is exactly what they should be transparent about it bc that means there was a glitch and can't be trusted. Not to mention there's been a few occasions where the PB doesn't broadcast the game due to 'technical issues'.

Legally, each state runs their own game. The only difference between PB and an in-state draw game is that someone else (MUSL) draws the winning numbers, someone else (MUSL) collects the jackpot contribution of 68 cents per ticket, and someone else (MUSL) pays the jackpot. Everything else (playslips, ticket paper, second place prizes, etc.) is done by the state.

It was definitely because of the patterns on the playslip. In my state (Nebraska) two people won $1 million. The playslip for Nebraska shows those numbers as a column, and I bet the Nebraska $1 million winners also won this way. This reminds me of the story years ago when a bunch of people won the second place prize of $100,000 from a fortune cookie. This type of thing would only happen once in over a decade. I would say most winners are self picks if your state lottery powerball play slip was organized with 5 rows of numbers per ticket for the white balls for an easy pattern to play. Lots of Keno players play patterns so not unusual. Someone should tally all the state powerball play slips that won and see how many have 5 rows of numbers for easy pattern play.

Look at Florida Powerball play slip which is the anti play slip for pattern selection with lots of rows for white ball selection.

There was also a record breaking thing in the Florida Lottery with 905,905, and 950 Cash 3 coming up within a couple of days a few days ago. 905 came up on Monday midday and 905 came up Tuesday midday and 950 came up Monday night. Approximately 75% of all lottery tickets sold are QP's Therefore I'd expect 67 of the 89 second place prizes to be QP's.

I think the big question now is do they have enough money in the second place prize pool to pay out the total second place prize value of $117 million? My guess is they don't and the 89 second place prizes are going to be paid out on a parimutuel basis. G5

It's a pattern on the playslip. The states with lots of winners, such as Oregon, have a playslip with those numbers that looks like this:

The Colorado Lottery PB playslip does not look like that. Marking a column of numbers that start with 3 would be 3,10,17,24,31.

The Indiana PB playslip also has the OR pattern, and since people in Indiana play PB more than just about anyone it seems, they had lots and lots of winners.

According to ChatGPT this isn't possible in a random system. Especially 89 second place winners mostly from lower populations states. 19 from Indiana and 11 from Louisiana on total ticket sales at 9,400,000.

Maybe not sports , because it was multi-state . So maybe a common set of numbers produced by the computers . I believe computers don't generate true randomness ( quick pick generators) . So this is one of the effects .
