i think that CA just makes the estimates up so that they can boost sales. they have such a high starting jackpot so they won't need to go multi-state.

True...Powerball offers a better chance of hitting the jackpot, however, Megamillions offers the better chance of getting 5/52 as opposed to 5/53 for Powerball. For the purpose of this discussion, I'd say winning is matching the 5 white balls for the 2nd prize, and of course the jackpot. I agree that if one's goal is to at least match 5, then it would be wise to also play your states pick/5 game, as the odds of hitting all 5 are much less than either PB or Mega. I agree with Jake649. Its a no brainer, Powerball is the better bet. The second place prizes and odds, they both stink. Your better off spending a buck on your local state pick 5 game.Example, Pa Cash 5 with a starting jackpot of 100K and odds of 575,757 looks good compared to the two big jackpot games.Chas

That tells us that Powerball either needs to reduce the matrix, or increase the lower prizes (maybe match 5 would equal $200K?).

As we all know, Powerball and Megamillions are the two major lotteries in the U.S. Currently 26 states, Washington DC, and the U.S. Virgin Islands participate in PB for a combined population base of 89,837,322 people.
