Being Married To Oneself

Published:

I was watching a television show this morning and a woman 50 years old. Quite attractive and intelligent decided to do a ceremony to marry herself. A personal, committment ceremony, I guess you could call it.  She has not met the right man. I know how she feels by the way.She likes her independance and nobody understands her more than herself.

I agree with her. I know that nobody in this world understands a person  more than themselves. And I'm my own best friend also. I have seen the relationships and marriages of today and I can understand that you are the only one who can really rely on yourself through good times and bad. I as well have realized that in my life.

Yes , it's good to have friends or roommates, or relationships . But is marriage really necessary anymore. The answer is no, not like it used to be. Independance is the greatest gift of all .

At least she doesn't have to worry about signing a pre-nup in case she gets a divorce. LOL

I'm single out of choice. I only agree with "you are the only one who can really rely on..." if you are talking about other humans. Having self-esteem and self-love is important, but believing it comes from a Higher Power and looking to it for guidance is more important or a person will soon get lost. Just my opinion.

By the way, I used "it" for Higher Power to keep specific religions out of my comment. After I read it, I figured it should be "Him" but then it sounds like I'm preaching religion, and I'm not.

If she was younger, she can now get herself pregnant.

Elizabeth, I know you meant this to be a spiritual conversation, so I hope you aren't offended by the jokes, but I was thinking:

If someone marries herself, isn't that "Same-Sex marriage?"

Self-reliance is an important aspect of survival. But to marry oneself is a bit unusal. Not to make light of it, but it brings to mind that she'll be arguing with herself about who's going to take the garbage out, who's cooking dinner tonight, who she's been cheating with, etc.

Marital bliss ain't so blissful even with yourself. ;)

Yes, Rick. But batteries are cheap, divorces aren't. (blush)

Being married to oneself is being your own friend. Not wondering if your partner is faithful, not in a abusive relationship. Not having the troubles that married couples go through today.
Being able to come and go as you please. To travel at the spur of the moment without wondering if the other person wants to go too. The independence and peace of mind involved basically with being a single person.
